Just looking at my broadband options, in a few months my contract ends, with my current 128k sentech connection. I use about 5 gigs and it costs me R633/month I average about 12KB when downloading files.


The larger sentech 512 package would cost me about 1349/month (given that I already have a modem) with nowadays hopefully better download speed.


The 3G options from MTN & vodoacomm seem the same and more expensive

Vodacom

R 499.00 1GB
R 2,495.00 5GB
R 4,990.00 10GB

GPRS:
MTN Bundles 10MB 100MB 350MB 1GB
Monthly Subscription R10.00 R100.00 R220.00 R499.00
so 5gigs would be R2495

Or..

MTNdataFAST calls are charged at normal voice tariffs (Peak and Off-Peak), according to your contract

which for me is R1.80/0.88, so if I wanted to be online for one 24 hour period it would cost me R1296 peak and R633.60 offpeak = R1929.60 !!!!!! :eek:


There is iburst 9gig for R1229/24 month contract

Then there is dear old Telkom's ADSL....... :p
 
there is no choice really, if you are not after the mobility, ADSL is the way to go in terms of reliability, as long as you can get it installed in your area

I have been with iBurst and it sucks, sentech has lots of problems too AFAIK, GPRS/EDGE are not only slow but very expensive but very mobile!

ADSL with 10GB per month will cost you R350+R270=R620 (+R92 for telephone line if you don't have one already) for 192 kbps line (which can give you something between 24 and 32 KB/s sustained)

EDGE isn't that bad.. bout 220Kbps
