I thought that I would start a little archive of iBurst-related ephemera, little tidbits of this and that to show how the iBurst Experience (Lowband. Byzantine. Relive the suffering!) has crept through into everyday life, where it pops up when you least expect it, evidence that it has become part of our cultural environment, and mostly not in a good way.

So here goes item no.1:

At BookSA, a site where I am a member and commenter, I posted the following on 6 August 2008. The comment thread was mainly about the non-coverage of poetry by SA media and its effects on SA culture and education. Then someone mentioned 'Don't Panic'. My response:

Is Don't Panic that optimism jobby done by the CEO or MD of iBurst? He should send that to all his disgruntled customers: don't panic if you disconnect, don't panic if we bill you even though you've cancelled your subscription, don't panic if we want to charge you for a modem that you bought from a reseller; don't panic while our helpdesk can't help you; don't panic if your accounts-query emails are ignored. He should get his company in order rather than waste time on optimistic emails. (Source)

I'm looking for a catchy label for this kind of thing, like 'The iBurst Effect' or the 'Van Spaandonk Syndrome'. What about 'The Knott-Craig Coefficient'? 'The Panic Coefficient'?

Anybody got any better ideas?

Also, feel free to post little tidbits of the iBurst Effect.

Lastly, any ideas about cooking beef soft shin? I'm thinking of a good stew? Cooking times for soft shin?

"A refund was processed... and the system picked it up as an invoice."

Can you believe it? Someone gets refunded by Iburst - 18 months after he got out. He gives them his bank account details, gets the refund, but then iBurst promptly debits his account again?

Is this really a software issue?

What really is the iBurst Coefficient at work here?
