Hi All

I got iBurst in December due to Telkom giving you the usual shaft when you want to transfer a line. It was great, went to the Bedford shopping centre found the guy doing the demo (had no signal.....lol but was resolved soon) Told him I don’t want the demo, I want the modem and go home and use it.

Ok so got the modem no drivers no manual just the modem, PSU, USB cable and Ethernet cable oh and a box it was in. Went to a postnet shop to download drivers for which I had to buy a cd and pay for the usage of the connection. Not a good start but I thought ok they are testing and this prob a modem they used for demo and forgot the disc.

Got home had 2 hours of struggling to get it to work, Poor guy on the help desk did not know the procedure for getting the modem installed on win98, Problem was on installing the virtual com port. Installed spare drive and win2000 at about mach 3.6, installed modem and all other odds and ends like AV and spy ware blocker etc. Tried to connect got invalid username and password after about 30 mins on the phone found out they had the wrong UTID, Sorted that out connected and enjoyed the best speeds on the net I have had in a looooong time. January came and the problems started.

Now to bring this story to a close I never had to change MTU settings or nothing just plugged in installed drivers and it worked. Now I found that I need to keep checking these, my speed is weird one minute telkom speed test is at 1124!!!!! the next 300-400  along with all the other issues about disconnection etc that has been mentioned on this forum. My signal is always after the recent issues been between 95%-100% Frame error rate can get up to about 28% and download speeds do not even compare dial-up on telkom.

WHAT HAS CHANGED??? This is my question. I do not have stats but many are complaining about major problems and I did not have any till January.. Techies check your logs before January and undo what you have changed. It is that simple and do not try to tell me it is not! It worked fine now it sucks. I have kept my cool long enough but you guys want to go live in approx 30 days and charge me more ... Not a chance, not with the current service on offer.

"It worked fine now it sucks."

This too was the strident cry of the MyWireless early adoptors ... 3 months after the product launched.

Admittedly I am no authority on the MyWi saga (I leave that up to those unfortunate enough to have experienced it), however it is clear to me that there is 1 major difference so far between Sentech MyWi & WBS iBurst, what you ask - WBS decided to give their actual launch the names "pre-launch", "soft-launch", while Sentech just decided to leave the name as "launch".

Other than that WBS appear to be following the Sentech script for losing as many customers as possible in the shortest space of time.

All I want is to have the problem addressed, we are in the testing phase and do not expect to get the "service" for free but damnit I would like to know what is going on

I Play everquest, I love this game and it is my little bit of entertainment. This was my sole reason for signing up. I am not a download junkie no offence guys, but since January I have had high lag and packet loss. Ask any everquester this equals death and that is experiance lost in the game, this is not just a stat but how well your toon performs!!!

When I signed up for iBurst I paid for my modem in full as I do not want the contract thing like telkom and cell phones, I may have shot myself in the foot as if I cancel now its almost R3k wasted.

I am the IT industry offering desktop support and have sadly had to recommend to my clients to read this forum before moving to iBurst, as if I recommend this service I would be in serious Sh!te if it does not deliver.

Resellers I feel for you guys trying to sell a product and within the same week being compared to Telkom or sentech! I hope the guys from iBurst read this post and respond I am not going to bother to phone as all I end up doing is raising my BP and cursing after I hang up the phone, Those poor dudes at the helpdesk must be having nightmares already.

BTW Telkom speed test tonight before post was:
Download time: 5 seconds
Size of file: 500 KiloBytes
Estimated line speed: 816 (kilobits/second)
Estimated line speed: 100 (kiloBytes/second)
Then why the lag and packet loss possible port shaping already ???

I think that's part of the problem, however the biggest problem is WBS' incompetence & lack of support...

Change Control is an alien concept for WBS & I doubt they have kept any kind of logs to refer to.

Is that all - I was disconnected for most of the day, and when I managed to reconnect throughout, another disconnect followed close behind...

oh well once again ....disconnected twice trying to read forum!!

My connection is soooo incredibly useless that LSM freezes up thinking I have piggy-backed a snail to get on the net...

The new BST s/w also fails at every turn (but it doesn't feckin freeze like LSM, not yet anyway)...

"Useless" is indeed the word... that's exactly what this connection is.

I applied for ADSL yesterday. I don't care if it's Telkom... all I want is a decent connection and at this point in time, they are the only people that provide that - cap or not...

These other companies are nothing but fly-by-night wannabe's!

I don't know why I even wasted my time with them...

I really don't know what you guys keep complaining about. There's NOTHING wrong with the iBurst network. I used my dialup to look on the iBurst site under network status and it's just little green lights everywhere. I mean, surely they wouldn't be blatently lying!? Of course not, no-one would be that stupid to lie about that, 'cause they know they'll be caught out, and that would make them look really bad with their red faces and all. I also have problems with iBurst, heck, my dialup is much better, but I know it's on my side. In fact I know that everybody who has problems with their iBurst connection: It's on their own side, 'cause the lights are all green, and no respectable company would lie about the core of their business like that...
