I applied for a line transfer including ADSL to my new premises within the same exchange so, presumably everything would remain the same, number, ADSL status on the line and so forth.
There was no need for port allocation so, it was what I would describe as a simple procedure.
A week later I called to find out the progress and I was told that they did not have a date for me as yet but the techies were doing the necessary test to see if that particular exchange offered ADSL (lol I have ADSL on that exchange for 20 months now).
So I called a few days later, to be more precise Friday the 21st July 2006 and after giving the lady that answered the call my reference number she told me that it was cancelled.
I went absolutely insane for a while, recomposed myself, and asked her what were the reasons for the cancellation, the reply was “I don’t know” … so I asked her to please read the comments from the person that cancelled the order but according to her there were no comments (no reason for cancellation).
I asked to speak to someone that could explain to me the reason for cancellation and once again I was told that because there were no comments on the system she could not put me through to no one. So I hung up and dialed again.
Got through to another operator in the Cape and after giving her me reference number, I was told that the order was still in the planning stages. I asked why was it taking so long and was told that Telkom had a backload of work therefore the orders were taking 3 times as long as they normally do. I then mentioned that I had called before and was told tat the order was cancelled. She was surprised because on the system it clearly showed that the order was in the planning stages. I once again hung up and called again.
Got through to another operator in the Cape and same story, gave reference number and this time I was told that the transfer could not be done because the exchange I was moving to did not offer ADSL (remember that I had ADSL at the exchange she was talking about for about 20 months). I said please make sure that you have the right reference number because something here is not right, then she said “wait a minute, the is another comment here” I asked her please read it for me, she said sure. It read “this has been tested and its now ready for installation, the port has been allocated (yeah 20 months ago cause I been using it) and we are now waiting for an installation date.
So to make sure, I called again and got trough to a lady called ……., she explained to me what was happening she made more sense then anyone I have ever spoken to at Telkom. She even went as far as to tell me that she was going to do everything possible for the installation to be done as soon as possible, maybe this weekend.
Oh wait!! somewhere along one of the calls, I was told that I would land up with 2 ADSL’s and 2 identical telephone numbers on different premises. (now this does not make sense not even to a monkey on Disprin .. )
Can Telkom guarantee us that they train their staff before they actually put them answering calls, or they just drive around in BMW’s picking up morons and giving them jobs?
This is our telecommunication company?
