Hi all, I recently became the proud new owner of my first AMD desktop machine, and its been brill :D
my specs are as follows:

Phenom II x4 965 OC'd @ 3.9Ghz
2x 2gb DDR3 1333 Kingston bad boys
2x EAH5770 (Crossfire ftw)
M4A785TD-V EVO Asus Mobo
Corsair TX750W PSU

So as u can imagine my expectations are pretty high in terms of performance, but i havent quite been fully satisfied. I wonder if any of the following matters are the cause :

Reasons for slight disappointment include:
-Slight jerking, Lagging in the newest GTA Liberty City for PC, a game coded especially for crossfire systems
-Slightly lower benchmark results (3D Vantage Mark, Black Box)

-Using a 750watt corsair psu which might not be enough power to the entire system. can anyone give suggestions as to what wattage psu I should be using according to the above specs.
-Also heard that it is a good idea to use specific versions of ATI catalyst center that are designed for crossfire systems. Does anyone know anything on that subject to?

P.S one last thing if anyone knows where to find a benchmarking program that utilizes Direct X 11 pls let me know to.
I trust the many intellectual members of these forums will have no problem in helping me sort out this minor difficulty.

Never done xfire , so no comment there.
750w is more than enough!!
try heaven benchmark very good :)

Heaven is a DX11 benchmard, and not sure if the new 3Dmark is out which is also only DX11. Then 750W is more than enough for 2 5770s, should have a peak draw of 525W. I'd say check your driver version, cant think of anything else with the info you provided. How many screens you running, and what resolution?

Agreed here, must be software related, make sure you are using the most updated drivers.

When did they start coding games specifically for crossfire?

Does the game have issues when you disable a card?

A 550Watt corsair is enough for your system.

You need to run an SSD. :)

SSD ain't going to help him when in game though.

How will it help him qwik? Games run identical on ssd or normal 7200 rpm drive. May load faster on ssd but i have not seen an improvement in FPS or gameplay for that matter.

Why did you go Crossfire instead of a 5850 or 5870? Less issues, less power draw, less heat produced, less space required.

Could also be the micro stutter problem. Afaik there are 3 ways to set up xfire frame displaying. One is each card renders half a frame, another is to render alternate frames (most stutter) and cant remember the last. Look for something along these lines in CCC and play around with each type. Also force triple buffering to always be on in CCC. But first do a driver update.

i really wouldnt worry about gta lagging... your system is mad and GTA just doesnt work properly on anything

Thank u everyone for the timely responses.
Im ruuning an earlier version of CCC 8.1 because of a previous problem I had with a game (texture problems and arti***ts) and this version fixed those problems. only using a single monitor 1680x1050.

Havent tried disabling any of the cards. Will do so today to see what differences are.

Why I went 2x 5770 over 5850 cuz 4 months down the line when i get the correct cooling hardware im gna OC those badboys, and now 5850 or 70 will know wtf is up :D

their are a couple games that producers claim are specifically for Crossfire or SLI systems, although now I think bout it, its probably just a selling point.
anyone, straight DL link for heaven benchmark? I can only find the Unigen version

Definitely upgrade to 10.6. Fixes a lot of issues.

You could OC a 5850 or 5870 right now, and it would probably be cheaper than Xfire 5770s, and faster too.

I agree with this.
That game is your standard port.
Play something else and check if your FPS match those on review sites that are reviewing 2 x 5770.

Plus you really need to install cat10.6. You are way behind if you have 8.1 on.

2 5770's are not more expensive than a 5870 and the performance is pretty much equal.

Of course you have to live with all the crap you encounter with crossfire.
