My lil upgrade..advise please

Hi guys

So i have a e6600 @ 3.6ghz, with 4 gigs 800mhz ram and a ati 4850

I see more and more games are coming out with a quad core as recommended requirements (Bad Company 2)

So my question is will i see results purchasing a Q6600?? (atleast i wont have to replace mobo and ram yet)

Is there really that much difference between a E6600 and Q6600:erm:
 
I reckon you will definitely see quite a bit of an improvement
 
For games that use more than two cores yes but for games that don't you won't see an improvement but the time has come for gamers to stop buying dual cores.

@spiderz, i dont want to upgrade my mobo yet, ill wait til its REALLY outta date then get a i5 or i7.

Ok great im going to get it on saturday :D

if anything it should give my pc awhile longer, i do love that lil E6600 tho haha, its served me well!!

If you are buying second-hand, which you must be, then a Q6600 gives good value for money (R900 or so). Otherwise what's your budget? You should also look at second-hand Q9400, Q9550, etc.

The Q9xxx is still a 775 CPU.
Biggest Quad's you can get on the 775 platform. Q6600 has been off the market for a while now.
 
I have a Gigabyte GA 965p DS4 (65nm) thats why q6600 is kinda my only option :)
 
Hey guys

so i got the q6600 (G0 stepping) on sat, and installed it with a aftermarket cooler.

Im struggling to OC tho, i got it to 3.2gigs on stock voltages, and managed to crank it to 3.42 but not very easily.
It was freezing on windows boot screen with the logo, so i had to up the vcore to 1.35 which made absolutely no difference until i turned up voltages on fsb and northbridge - 0.20.

the cpu is still running relatively cool, 48-50C under full load on prime 95.

I think this cpu is capable of alot more, but now i cant go higher then 3.42gigs (9x380) because windows boot screen freezes, even if i up vcore all the way to 1.49 it doesnt make a difference.. why is windows not booting up? i dont get a BSOD or anything. it must be my northbridge? how high can i overvolt it??

I have a 650w psu - forget the name but its not a cheapie
mobo is gigabyte ga 965p ds4

Oh my ram is set to 800mhz, so it isnt overclocked.
