A Nikon :

• 28-420mm equiv
• F3.5-5.4

A Canon :

• 28- 560 mm equiv
• F2.8 - F5.7 (max)

The Canon is the better lens, as the aperature is open wider at any point on the zoom?

Yes, the Canon does look better on paper, although you need to be careful of the aperture on the wide end. That max starts earlier on, and on some lenses it starts very short.

Actually those superzoom that you real camera men dn't like

Canon SX20IS and Nikon L110.

This place has the Nikon extremly cheap though http://www.saopticsandelectronics.co.za/cameras/nikon/nikon-coolpix-l110/prod_230.html considering it looks like $300 in the USA.

The controls are basic, though. More expensive superzooms boast a full set of program-auto-exposure, aperture-priority, shutter-priority and manual-exposure modes, just like dSLRs, but you don't get those with the L22. You just get scene modes, and a full auto, smart-portrait, sports and program AE mode, although you can at least fiddle with the ISO and white balance, for example.
