My new consumerism website

After a lot of effort and time cooped in a dark corner I've just launched a local consumerism website.

It's aimed to help people find brands with good customer service and avoid rubbish brands/service. Signup is free (and quick) so check it out at www.opinyon.co.za if you want.

It's essentially about sharing, discovery and filtering rather than conflict resolution. It's also there to give people a platform to b*tch and moan on to their friends without having to clog up their own Twitter and Facebook streams. I've got thick skin so criticize away if you will

HavocXphere, going to make it so that popular reviews can be publicly available in the near future. Need to add a voting system first to determine which reviews those will be.

The reason I didn't do it yet is due to legal issues of publicly visible negative reviews...

I doubt you get any legal protection from immediately visible vs visible after signing up tbh - both would count a "public" in a court imo. Realistically though you don't have much of a choice. These type of websites need people - lots. You won't get the necessary numbers if you p!ss of the vast majority of people in 5 sec flat because they can't see what they are signing up for. You're essentially asking them to take a leap of faith. I've got 20 tabs open...each gets about 10 sec of attention and definitely no leap of faith.

Don't get me wrong - I really like this idea. Plus if you can kick a certain competing website in the balls without following their business model then I'll be delighted.

Regarding your first point, spot on, but I'm trying to delay the first inevitable legal threats until the site is a bit more populated.

Second point is also true and has been thought about long and hard but the primary target market (lower LSM - yes the site is functional on Samsung GT phones) doesn't suffer from tab-itis like us pro-browsers do. Time will tell, and decisions can be re-evaluated
