Well well well...
I went to my local Musica and bought the VM Access Pack with the ‘old’ 64K sim.
Only after waiting a long time for :
the guy there to get my info,
to type in into the PC,
to fill in the forms,
to wait for the PC to accept my info,
to wait for the PC to activate my ‘package’(sim?),
to get VM R50 airtime.

I thought my troubles was over, but it had only just begun…

I thought that is was Hot (active) already and ready to use ‘as is’, just to find out I was wrong. I had to activate it first. But this was OK. I then loaded my R50 airtime.

I left the simcard and only today did I thought it is ‘TIME’. I’m going over to Virgin Mobile! On my Samsung X600 I went to the VM menu to request the mms/gprs settings. The first settings came and I saved it. But when I wanted to reply ‘Y’ to the sms it gave me an Error.

I tried sending an sms to myself ,friends etc. All of them just gave me an Error! Phoned 123, they gave me message centre numbers.
+2774 100 0050/1
+2774 100 0 0050 <does not make sense.

None of them worked. The operator then suggested unbarring my in/outgoing sms’s. Tried ,did not work. He told me that the data op’s will gimme a call to sort out my sms’s.

But I got my GPRS settings from him!! Connected my phone to my PC. It connected fine with the vdata apn. But every time I load a page, it only loads for 1 second and then stops, ‘cannot find web site’ error. I can clearly tell that it finds the website and starts to load it, but ceases the loading after a second and throws a error. My gprs on my phone connects but then also just loads and loads.
That’s wrong here? Can anyone help me? I have R100 that are useless now. GPRS only works 1 second. SMS does not work. HELP!

Would getting the new 128k sim help me mabe?

Any help would be appreciated , thank you!

I had a similar problem when I first got my Virgin SIM, after many calls to their help desk it turned out you need to make a chargeable call before the SIM is really active, I just dialled my other mobile, let it ring once and hung up.

Will try thanx,

Also noticed today that my GPRS on my phone 'connects' and also just loads...and loads. Then I get an 'Network Error'!

All probs FIXED!

At long last, i'm online @ 50c /MB!
Thanx for all your help.

Just weird that I as the customer had to go find out how to activate/use my own SIM etc etc. But other than that i'm happy @ Virgin Mobile!

Their 123 helpline has very short waiting times, and some of the ops seems to know stuff, except that they did not know about the new 128k SIM cards that they are releasing...

Welcome fellow VM'er... luckily I had no probs getting the sim active, when I switched on the cell with the sim first time and tried to activate the sim etc. I got msg that it is activated already, don need to do anything .... (when I was at Musica to buy the pack, and filled in the form, the chick there told me it would probably take a few mins to activate, and by the time I got to the car to test... all ready)
Only weird thing is, everytime I put the sim in one of my cellphones or data card, and switch on, it comes up with the msg do I wanna download GPRS & MMS settings... I have already done so on all of them the first time it happened.
I suppose, becoz they are not default settings on the handset, the sim wants to get them as default.
My only nag is that the sim doesn't work in the E620 MTN HSDPA card, or the Duxbury USB EDGE modem (Duxbury connects for a few seconds, then bombs out) but we're all holding out for the 128K sims that should fix this.
.... why VM using 64K sims, and now gearing up for 128K sims, if VC & MTN still using 32K sims?.... suppose if u gonna start from scratch might as well start with latest tech?
