I have owned my Oculus Rift now for about two weeks and my lovely touch controllers for about three days, so I thought I would write a quick review.

TL;DR VR is the bomb, go buy it now :D

The Setup

Oculus sets up easily and rather quickly considering that it is brand new tech. I was set up in under 30 minutes with the rift and the touch controllers took another 10-15.

The screen quality

If like me, you tried the DK2, then you will be glad to know that the picture quality has improved GREATLY. The screen door effect is still there, but vastly reduced...I think the next version should have it completely removed. I could read text quite clearly, except when it is very small.

The games

Luckey's Tale

Boring as all hell...it comes free with the rift and I feel like I paid too much. Nuff said.

Eve Valkyrie

Absolutely beautiful. It lacks some serious depth though and with the lag it just ins't worth it...but good lord, sooooo beautiful.

Dota 2 VR hub

Though not a game, I watched some matches and it is absolutely the best way to spectate a game. There is no other means of spectating a Dota2 game that can compete. As someone who has been to live events...not even that competes. Watching everything unfold in 3d is just too amazing for words.

Elite Dangerous

You need a hotas to truly appreciate this and with a voice pack and voice attack...it is just something else. The soothing sounds of William Shatner's voice as he *%^# up my commands while being shot at in VR is just an experience to have. Warning though, you need to be an ED player to truly enjoy this and setting it all up takes about an hour...but once it's there you will not take your headset off for hours.

The rest of the games I tried

I tried a variety of other games...and they all show what VR will become...something that blows your mind. VR is by far one of the most immersive experiences out there and I love every moment of it...however the majority of the games lack depth. The content just isn't quite ready yet in my opinion...but it is sooo close...however in my opinion the tech definitely is...it will just get better.

Pros:

Awesome visuals in the right games
Totally immersive
Experiences you can't compete with

Cons:

Screen not perfect
Some stuff is a bit complicated to setup and everything together is a complete usb port hog
Games are coming along great, but not quite there yet, except for a few

Verdict:

If you have the money, get it. It is awesome. I imported mine via amazon and would do it again in a heartbeat. If you don't, then wait a while...this tech isn't going to die and it will become more affordable in the future. And did I forget to mention it is awesome?

I'm going the PS4 VR route (hopefully next year), lower resolution but higher refresh rate. Did the refresh rate (flicker/glare) of the rift bother you or not really ?

I didn't even notice it. I know it sounds unimpressive, but 90FPS puts you in there.

That's slightly different, fps is the rate at which individual 'screens/images' which make up the 'animation' are displayed while refresh rate has more to do with constantly refreshing the display, even when viewing a static 'screen', yet if you did not notice flicker then the refresh rate must have been adequate. I am fairly sensitive to it, feel quesy when refresh rate is not high enough.

EDIT: I see the rift has 90 Hz refresh rate, so you may have meant 90 Hz and not FPS after all.
