I've got a prepaid local account from Axxess and I have my pc hooked up here at work on the dsl line.

Is there a way to connect with my account without compromising my bosses username and password on the router?

yes..

what OS are you using?

just go to my network places > create new connection > broadband connection > type in username and password provided..

Oh yes your router must be in bridge mode

I'm using XP

So Setting the router to bridge mode will not get rid of the current username and password in the router...

So that when I switch it back to it's 'standard' mode it will be exactly as I got it?

EDIT

Alternately looking at the router settings. In the WAN Config portion there is a create new connection part. If I create a new one will that override the old details or create a seperate one?

depends on the router, some of them are a pain in the butt to configure to and fro... how pissed off will your boss be if he has trouble connecting because you made changes to the router config? thats probably the most important question here :D

No. The important question is: How can I play BF2 TONIGHT! lol

I'm buying a router tomorrow, and then I obviously wont have a prob anymore, however, patience isn't my strongest virtue.

What do bosses know about routers/internet anyways. I say jump they say how hi ^_^

allow me to rephrase, what would happen in the event that you bridge the router then run in to trouble trying to revert the settings to the previous state?

what brand/model router is it???

i know my basic mecer router has an option to dump the settings to a config file that can be applied any time afterward. that would simplify it.

Yeah, I think I'm just gonna wait for tomorrow and save myself a possible shouting session.

My wife's playing counter-strike on my pc anyways, so I'm hands off for a while.

I guess I'll just forum whore for the rest of the night.

Shot for the replies.

don't some routers come standard in a half-bridge mode, allowing you to have one account setup in the router, and other pppoe accounts dialup through windows?

hey
this is what I did
went to the router page, went to the settings(while in normal mode)
print-screened the original setting so that I can refer back to those setting if anything goes wrong!
Otherwise a quick and easy phone call to your ISP can be helpful, they will guide you in the right direction!
but configuring your router into bridge mode is not hard at all..
I have my router in bridge mode, 2 PPPoE connections.
1 with Polka and 1 with OpenWeb..
works like a charm!

by the way a PPPoE is like a dial up connection to your internet...
very easy to use
what router do you have?

You dont have to type in username and password into the router page..
just change the router to bridge mode
save
exit browser
then everything else is done through My Network Places..
Create New Connection
Broadband Connection
ISP Name
Username
Password
Then it should connect, create a shortcut to the connection and place the shortcut on your desktop so that when you boot your pc, it will be a quick and easy route to your internet...
Let me know if you don't understand..

and let us know if you get fired xD

I suggest you save the username and password before changing to bridge mode. Some routers do not save the authentication details.

You can right-click on the page and select "View Source". Look through the source for the password. Easiest way to find it is to search (Ctrl+f) for text that appears close to the password field, like "Password".

Okay. So I went out and got a router. plugged that one in my bosses line and I have internet. I'm gonna put the details in the router and create a bridge mode to see if it messes with the "internal username and password" when I convert back to PPPoE. I will also check if I can find the password in the source as suggested. Will post my result tomorrow night.
