Hello there. I need some serious help here!

Let's just say that pirate copies of windows and my pc do not mix well. I installed a copy of xp and since then i have endless issues with it.

The specs of my pc and other info you can find here.

I have now foratted the harddrive completely, leaving two empty partitions. When i try to boot from the windows xp installation cd which has always worked in the past i get to the blue screen part and then i get this message: "An unexpected error (1073711808) has occurred st line 1768 in d:\xpcclient\base\boot\setup\arcisp.c. \press any key to continue.

When i do that it just reboots...

If i don't try to boot from the cd i get to the normal black startup screen with all the drives listed and it says "NTLDR is missing, press ctrl alt del to restart" and i can't get any further!

What have i done wrong here??

Any help would be very much appreciated!!

Thanks

H

It sounds as if your CD drive is buggered - have you tried another one?

Also, is there any swollen or leaking capacitors on the motherboard?

TK to the rescue :)

Didn't think of the cd drive...

I will try another one and see...The mobo looks fine to me...

could also be a memory issue!

you may also want to take your drives to another machine and get them formated there properly

This behavior can occur because of damaged random access memory (RAM) modules or a damaged RAM slot.

Things are looking up! Swapped the RAM . Took one stick out and put the other in new slot. Now i dont get the error any more. But when i try to install it to that newly formatted hdd it takes forever, once past the initial blue screen, and then just hangs with a black screen with nothing on it...

Bro, launch the Xp cd, wait for it to give a option about recovery console, go into the console and reformat the harddrive, just type format c: /u

It should format it completely, the thing I'm thinking of is that it gave you that NTLDR error, that means some system files are still on the hdd, like the volume information etc.

Give it a shot ;)

Don't you just love me? :p I still owe you a DVD writer ;) Give me a couple of months....:D

I remember that. Technically I have one now in my laptop, but i shall keep you to your word :)

PS, PC is running fine again, with only 512MB RAM ATM, but all is well :)

Don't you just hate it when you have to remove half your RAM in order to get stuff working again :D Happened to me too a while back.

Anyway you can avoid blue screens in future by cleaning out the dust from your heatsink every couple of months. This also helps your CPU run at a cooler temp.

I checked there was so much dust when i opened my machine up, i couldn't quite believe it!

The fans on the box are so loud. The old AMD chip takes a lot of cooling :(

Glad i have this laptop now for browsing...

Hey, that second link I gave, that forum, one guy said he added the ram again after the Doze install, give it a shot ;)

I'll send you a pm sometime, ;)

Keep well dude!

Sweet! I shall give it a go tomorrow. \if i have to take apart my pc one more time today i think i am gonna lose it! :p

will await that pm...:)
