my PC is sick, gfx card suspect

lately whenever i play Battlefield 2142 i get massive artifacting, sometimes the screen just goes black and i can only see part of what is going on and occasionally i get the dreaded BSOD and the system reboots. I used to be able to play at full detail @ max res perfectly but now if i try that it really is unplayable, even when i lower the detail i still get artifacting and some rather weird looking textures. My setup (just under year old) is a Athlon X2 3800+, 2GB, Gainward 7900GT, Gigabyte K8N-SLi all at stock speeds. CPU temp stays cool < 40 degrees, GPU idles @ 51 & 60 under load. I have tried different drivers and got the same result. Also tried removing side panel of case and put a exhaust fan in, no difference:(

Another thing is that i now run dual LCD's (1 off while i play), i seem to get what appears like 'dead pixels' but they aren't dead pixels because they change position:confused: and i don't get them when i use the LCD's on my other computer.

Change out the gpu and try run it again, just have to keep swopping components till you find the broken one. Only problem that happens with that is if u have 2 faulty computer bits.
 
Best way to test is to put your GPU in somebody else's PC and test.

Download and run memtest86 (google it) and test your ram, leave it running until it does at least 3 passes or so.

If that doesn't help, maybe try removing your second LCD screen.

Btw, those temperatures are fine, my 8800GTX idles at 75-80C, not ideal but it can handle it, though I'm still busyt making a plan to get it cooler. I wouldn't worry about your temps, your CPU and GPU are well within safe limits here.

I think i found the problem... The card is factory clocked at 500,700 whereas the standard reference 7900gt's are 450/660. Will play around tonight...

another problem is i cant just take it back, i bought it from dotcomputers.co.za which no longer exists, i have emailed gainward support lets see if they respond :/
 
Your higher stock speeds doesn't really mean it's a bad thing. Some cards from XFX, for example, are pre-overclocked and use their own cooling solution, this is very normal.

@n1hilist - with lowered clock speed it doesn't artifact nearly as much but it still does from time to time, plus a noticeable decrease in performance.
 
hmmm gainward do you think he bought it from axiz maybe?

maybe pm me the serial number i'll see if its an axiz card
