My pc wont shutdown?

IM using vista and every time i try restarting or shutdown it just stays on the desk top why? please help...

Use Task Manager, click the taskbar, right click on it and choose task manager.

Click users to the right, click on your name and log off, try and shut down after you've logged off.

If you loaded any software previously which could cause the problem, use system restore.

You're probably clicking on the red power button which puts the machine into hibernation, you need to click on the arrow and then shut down.
