I have been searching for some kind of outlet or closure to some of the photos I have taken. Thus I have started up a small photography blog. My main purpose with this blog is to showcase some of my photographs and get other peoples opinions on them. I figured I would learn a hell of a lot more getting critique from a wider market (than just my supporting wife and family :)). This might be cheesy, but I am enjoying this little project...

I will be updating the blog with some interesting photography hints I come across, especially "Cheat sheet" infographics.

Some very nice pics, well done. It would be great if you could include your settings for pics (f-stop, iso etc). Always nice to learn from others.
 
While having a photography blog is a great outlet for your creativity, there are so many photography blogs that it is almost impossible for people to keep up with visiting them all individually to provide feedback and critique. A Blog is a personal outlet for your work. You should not Blog to reach the masses and get visitors. You should blog for yourself only, and not care about getting visitors. Blogs are so frequent these days that you will find few regular visitors or comments will come your way, unless you are of the calibre of photographer that has everybody wanting to see your work.

We all expect to set up a blog, post a few things and the masses will come a-visiting. Unfortunately it doesn't work like that - I know from personal experience. You may have a few friends and family who visit regularly and post comments, but on average a blog is a quiet place for you to post your thoughts and photos, with maybe an occasional visitor.

If you really want feedback and critique as a novice, especially from people who have more experience and knowledge, I would recommend rather joining a community like DPS (Digital Photography School) and then posting in their "critique" forums, taking part in their weekly challenges etc. In that way you will meet a large community of like-minded people who are all coming together in a single place to teach one another, share knowledge, provide feedback and give advice. Alternatives are Flickr or 500px or Tumblr where it is a "blog-like" environment (your personal shots in one collection) but with an established community where people view others' photographs and provide comments.

All of that being said, keep working on your photography. You have some nice shots in there. My favourite is probably the Thunderstorm Sunset - Rock Tree.

@kim_bcs - I thought about that this morning as well, will go back to Lightroom to get the settings (will update existing posts as well)

@AnibugZA - Valuable advice. Luckily I am somewhat of a realist and don't have huge delusions of grandeur :). The blog is something for me, kind of like a photographic diary. Would love it if people visit, comment etc. but at the end of the day I am going to use it as a central store for most of my expeditions.

I will definitely look into the DPS suggestion! I have already joined the DP Review's Comment and Critique section as well. Oh yes, Rock Tree is my favorite as well :)
 
Awesome photos there mate, and great skills behind the lens. Just one observation.. This...

is not a Guinea Fowl, but rather a Bosveld Fisant.. This...

Yeah, I must admit my fauna and flora identification isn't up to scratch. I knew it was some kind of "Fisant" (being Afrikaans) but I didn't know the correct English term. Someone on the blog mentioned I should use iSpot, a Kirstenbosch based nature site that identifies any fauna and flora pics you send them free of charge! Will look into that :)

The iSpot idea is actually quite a good one. I often spot a bird, look at a flower or tree and wonder exactly what it was I just saw. So this is indeed a nice idea. Anyway, here is their URL: http://www.ispot.org.za/. Thank you, Google.

Yip! It is the "Broad-border Grass Yellow - Eurema brigitta brigitta" or "Grasveld Geletjie" (:) nice afrikaans description!). This iSpot site is quite cool. Going to help me identify a lot more fauna - especially insects and birds.
