Hi Peeps,

So this is my plan to reduce my annoyance at eishkom. Please let me know what you think and if I've missed out anything important

Step 1: Install new DB board to be supplied from Inverter, this will be supply power to all my light (mainly LED) circuits as well as the plugs for all my electronics which I want to run. This will include my fridge. I have no idea what this would cost. Ideas? All heavy loads will remain on main board
Step 2: Install http://econavitas.myshopify.com/collections/battery-backup-systems/products/kit-3-the-bases-covered. Is this OK, crap? expensive? I've seen people rating the Vitrons on this forum. Wire up to second DB with supply coming from main DB during power time. Will eventually hook this up to PV at some point ie: when wallet stop screaming at me.
Step 3:Enjoy the basics of life while eishkom does their crap.

There are so many options, it can get quite confusing.

I know quite a few people who "build up" their own systems, simply because it is cheaper and you get the freedom to hand-pick all the individual units. I built up a small portable one for the TV area and a few lights (saved around 50% on the price)

Things to consider

- Design the system: Calculate energy requirements (Even replace certain things around the house to lower the requirement), is it going to be a 12V or 24V system
- Get your Inverter/Charger, UPS and Batteries separately (e.g. Royal DC31 batteries are the best bang for buck IMHO, and go for a pure SIN wave inverter), based on your design and requirements
- Get an electrician to do all the wiring for you

Just please do one thing, regardless of which route you take (build or buy off-the-shelf), if you are putting in separate wiring on an isolated DB board, make sure you install those UPS Red plugs that have a flattened Earth pin, the last thing you want is to spend 20k+ and have the maid plug in a vacuum cleaner and damage the system.

Out of curiosity , what would putting a vacuum on one of the inverter plugs actually do ?
