Agreed. Every time there is a **** sitting on my ass in traffic its a Hilux or Fortuner.

Ford and Volvo share DNA. I looked at the Kuga and it is really a nice car, great safety and good features. Also, a good engine if you go for the 2.0D or 1.6 Eco. If you do a bit of homework, you will realise that some features in the Kuga and Volvo are the same, specifically relating to accident avoidance and safety. So it might be worth it.

The only sad part is, Audi's interior is so darn nice :( (Remember test driving the A4 before any other car)
 
After Ford bought Volvo most of them have been re-badged Fords. This means that they are still really good, but the old days of them being safer than anything else have gone. Now that Volvo is a Chinese company we will have to wait and see if the Chinese want to up the game again.

According to a US study the reason is actually the mass of the vehicle in front end collisions.

While the laws of physics dictate that in a crash between mismatched vehicles, the lighter one takes the brunt of the impact, this study shows just how unequal the contest is.

In car vs. SUV head-on crashes, the study found that the odds of death were 7.6 times higher for the car driver than the SUV driver. In crashes where the car had a better front crash-test rating than the SUV did, the car's driver fared a bit better but was still four and a half times more likely to die than the SUV driver.

If you looking for bang for buck without the brand snobishness(sp?) ... why not consider the Sangyong Rexton?
I would be the first to admit the models previously fell off the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down ... but the new model seems a worthwhile consideration ..

The University at Buffalo report is at http://www.buffalo.edu/news/releases/2013/05/026.html. Looks like it was an extensive survey.

One thing that they did not mention was the definition of what an SUV is. The US industry defines an SUV as being part of the light truck segment - in other words a lot bigger than the average mom's taxi on our roads.

I've heard a couple of horror stories about electrical problems in the Forester? Could have been isolated cases though.

What????????? You must be joking!!

I have owned three anddid massive milkeages in them, plus I then started selling them in 2010 because I was so imporessed with them and electrical problems are literally unheard of!

God I hate it when people start spreading rubbish stories about any brand.

I can actually put my head on a block on this one and say that we haven't had a single electrical problem on any Subaru since I started here 4 years ago!

Just get another Q5 man! The insurance value payout would have been higher even though u bought it cheap. Scrape some dough and just go for it.

I'm close to that decision now already.
Only problem is I'll have to downgrade from a 3L to 2L
 
If you're still considering a highly specced A4, I know the Hatfield dealer in PTA is offering 65k off on any sold so that should help get you something nice. You'd just have to make sure they haven't already gone over target for the month before buying.
