Well here is my rant about the sad state of adsl in this country

We were told its the high cost of internation connections blah blah blah that was making the caps so expensive , But you can buy local only cheap cheap ( axxess has local only for R 10.00 a gig )

Then seacom landed and we now have a oversupply of international coonections etc etc , But now we are told thats only a small part of the cost ?

so please tell ehat the heck is going on ? Why cant we have international at R 10.00 , are they losing money on the local only internet , because i cant see them selling a service at a loss

Cant they see if they lower the prices we will just end up buying more cap , heck we will also try upping our speeds so we can get more , so in the end they will end up getting more money

And calling 384 k " broadband " is a sad not so funny joke

:sick::sick::sick:

local bandwidth cannot be compared to international bandwidth.
International gets to us by means of a long cable...a very long cable...17000km's long...this costs money, hundreds of millions of dollars.
local bandwidth runs on local cables already in existence I'm guessing...even newly laid local cable...anyhow, it's a lot cheaper than the other one. The two cannot be compared.
I feel your pain though.

yeah dude they built a 17Million cable under sea ?? thats where the cost is how do they show where the money went they also need cash its a win win situation in this country

sad boedie

I think the main reason for the still high bandwitdh prices is that the ISP's signed a 5 or 10 year deal with telkom for their SAT3 cable. Those that isn't in a contract still need the SAT3 cable as a backbone provider incase seacoms fail.

couldn't agree with you more... the excuse was pure "telkom has sat3 monopoly and they solely control the price of international traffic" and now that the situation has changed and they dont like the idea of less profits, costs for end users won't change for us overnight - it's a slow moving wave. international bandwidth pricing has come down, but it's going to take many steps (of the currency 'time' - which unfortunately we've all just about run dry in) taken by the competing ISP's incrementally dropping their prices to stay competitive, before we see the prices fall.
