Hi there,

NETGEAR DG834GT, firmware version: V1.02.04

For some reason my router hangs a lot, as in 2/3 times per hour. What can cause this. It cannot be over heating because it is located in a smallish office with the air conditioner set at 21 degrees centigrate.
As far as I know, I have the latest Firmware installed.
This router serves 4 x wireless connections and 2 wired connections.

I will really appreciate your help here as this is very frustrating. It hangs in such a way that I cannot even access it without pulling the ower wire and put it back after about 30 seconds.

Please help me?
Regards,
Deon

I have the same router and have had no hanging problems. My router is on 24/7 and sometimes it forgets what it was doing and i have to reset it, other than that nothing. Maybe have it sent in to Duxbury as "faulty" and see what happens.

it could possible be overheating, when i was reading bout the router i recall reading quite a few articles/posts on this, but with your aircon at 21 degrees im not so sure.

i have the exact same router->no problems over here. make sure the router is positioned standing up using those plastic brackets that came with the router, hopefully that will solve some of your problems.

if all fails and you already have the router standing up try taking it to netgear themselves (is there netgear offices in SA?) or the company that distributes them and they should solve your problem.

when you say hang what do you mean? like internet completely stops working? or only for a few seconds?

also try upgrading firmware if you havent done so, and try setting your routers wireless to "g only" and check if theres any difference, cos on 'G only' router will be cooler, and you can check if overheating is the problem.

Put it on it's side vertically with the little clip-on feet at the bottom.

Hi Deon

I have the same router, i had the same problems. Go to the Netgear website, make ABSOLUTELY sure you are downloading the correct firmware for your router, and update it - will solve your problem.

If you turn your Router upside down, you should see : DG834Gv2 - make sure yours is v2 or v3 etc etc... and select the correct firmware.

let us know.
