Hi all, I just tried to scan some photos when I realized that the scanner wont work. He start up, and when I try to use the scanner program (scangear), it tells he can't communicate with the scanner. I tried my printer's cable, but the same. So the cable isn't the problem. Where can I look for a solution? And if the scanner is the problem, and I must replace it, what is the best make and model. I now have the Canon lide25, it's okay, but slow. Sometimes I scan photos, but not much, and I dont need negatives in my life. Pls guide me to what and to where to buy.

I have a Canon 4400F. It works well and does 35mm negatives as well.
4400x9600dpi
48bit i/o
The difference between this one and the Lide range is the power supply. Your's gets it from the USB cable - mine uses a separate adaptor.
Also mine uses the older and usually better CCD to capture the images.
They're all a bit slow on high-res scans.

I've been told to avoid the HP scanners. I see they have a NEW range with scan/copy/print all in one. The L7580 looks quite high spec. if that's your thing. Incredible Con should have them.

I have an Epson Perfection V700. Highly recommended!
Previous scanner was an HP6200c, but that went Rice Crispies (snap, crackle and pop) late last year with a power-surge.

I have a canon Ip 4200 printer, which I will never swop for anything., so I just need a scanner. I'll google that epson scanner Mux and check it's specs. Thanks.

uninstall the drivers plus prog (uninstall in control panel or in the prog itself) then reinstall i have the same scanner i hade to get new drivers from the web cause of xp's updates.

Firstly: Mux, are you out of you mind????!!!! Do you really think I'll pay R6400 for a scanner? Never in my life.
Okay, what I really wanted to say, thanks swim, I'll try that too. Did you get the updates from canon? I'll be glad if it's just the drivers, cause actually this scanner is still fine. I was going to take it back to game, cause I still have a guarantee on it. But then it'll cost me more for a better one. Thanks a lot

No problem jacqvt :D For me it was worth it as I could discontinue my Nikon LS1000 scanner as well.

Just one thing I've noticed. These scanners claim quite high resolutions, but I've not seen many (any) programs that take it that high anyway.
