My screen goes black when playing AVI's or MPG

Then when i logoff and log back in again it works fine. then after a while if i open an ""avi" or "mpg" or any video file for that matter, the app's screen is black and i can see tiny parts of the actual video but it's black and blue. it stays that way no matter which app i use, then when i logoff and back in again or restart, then it works fine. i use vlc media player as well as media player classic. i've tried wmp and nero's media player but nothing works. i usually sort out my own pc issues but this one has really got me thinking. help plz?
 
that happened to me too for a while. newest klite megacodec pack seems to have sorted me out.
 
Maybe try disabling hardware direct-x accelleration. It could be an issue with the
video directx accelleration.
 
i am using k-lite mega codec pack - the latest version. ever since i downloaded the latest version i've been having this problem. but it's not just a media player problem - the files do not work regardless of what media player i use.

yeah that sounds more like the problem. is that specific function application-dependant or is there a general setting in XP?
 
yip, that was the problem. i went to advanced display settings and when i disabled it, my AVI's were working properly, but it suffers in quality. so now i don't know what to do.

download gom player? seriously, its works
 
i'm running XP. it is the hardware acceleration issue cos when i turned it off my files were playing. i'm running a 8800GTS.
 
okay, problem solved :)

i downloaded and installed the latest Nvidia drivers and everything seems to be working now. thanks to all who helped.

there were many times when this happened to pc's and what i found there is always a link to the grafix card.check the npanel for any funny stuff
 
yeah thanks, if u check the previous page u will see that i installed driver updates for my nvidia graphics card and now it's working. thanks for your help.
