I got my replacement Xbox in March last year. Now more than a year on and the new unit is showing the exact same symptoms the old one did (freezing up at random points on different games). I know its just a matter of time before I see the RRoD. How difficult is MI Digital these days about returns? I'm really thinking of just selling the unit as scrap and flogging the games.

I'll keep everyone posted.

Here are the details:

MFR Date: 2008-03-14 (Okay, thinking about it now it was more May last year)
Serial Number: 3146106 8***5

How much do you think I could sell a troubled Xbox for?

It will cost someone else almost a grand to have it replaced by MID and about R500 to have it repaired privately.

MID offer a 3-month warranty on a refurbished XBOX, irrespective of the manufacturing date; however, Microsoft offers a 3-year warranty on RROD consoles, based on the date of manufacture. If you want MID to do your swop-out for free, I'd suggest you worked through Microsoft and get them to tell MID to honour the MS 3 year warranty over and above the MID 3 month warranty.

Good luck!!

If you get one of the failures covered by the 3 year warranty then you're covered as long as it has been less than that since you bought the console.

MI Digital are currently offering very poor service. However each person who has trouble with them should complain to Microsoft. It's no use moaning on forums. Things get done by complaining, and complaing again. Good customer service did not magically appear out of thin air in other countries; it happened because people made a fuss, and demanded they get service.

Whether it's worth the hassle of waiting for a replacement (that's all it is really - you have to be willing to wait) or take the financial loss of selling the console and games is up to each person to decide. But if you just walk away instead raising hell you're contributing to the problem of bad service.

That only applies if it is out of warranty.

Well I'm my best approach here is to cut my losses and stop supporting the providers of bad service.

Log a report on Hello Peter under Microsoft. The people there are fairly good at responding, but I would also suggest that you insist that they do not merely refer you to MI Digital, but instead take a personal interest in facilitating the process with their notoriously sub-par distribution partner...

I have replaced one unit via Mi (was 1 day over a year old) 2nd unit is lasting much longer... solution is, I have not used it as much :D but yeah, it sucks the the hardware is almost as unstable as a drunk at a beer fest!

If you think about it, you'r replacing your console with a console that has already broken down at least once... ;)

Unless Microsoft are made aware of why you're doing this it will make no difference. Your decision to no longer buy Xbox products could be due to any number of reasons. So if you don't make a fuss and complain you are part of the problem.

They do know, I phoned and cancelled by Gold Live renewal, they asked why I said because I'm tired of their bad hardware.

I also phoned them for a reference number for MI Digital.
