I applied for Adsl at the local Telkom direct shop and was given a number to phone after 14 days which I duly did and was given an install date about 8 weeks later. About 10 days later on a Saturday morning I get a call from a Telkom installation techie saying he's in the area would he mind if he came and installed Adsl. When he arrived he realised Telkom hadn't hooked up my line at the exchange, one call and a quick trip down to the exchange and he had my line was up and running. Apparently there was noone at the exchange to connect the line so he did it himself. He was an independant contractor. Anyway I thought I should share my happy story as I was really expecting a long drawn out process. (Perhaps because our expectations have dropped so low any hint of good service and were over the moon)

Congrats HiltM.
I phoned on Friday (I ordered 4 weeks earlier) I got the no ADSL in my area one. They are working on getting it enabled and they'll let me know in 2-3 weeks.
Couldn't they let me know this little piece of information earlier?
Hope my story ends as well as yours.

Seems I will have a happy ending to this tale. 
Went to the Telkom shop today, if I can believe what they said... I'll have ADSL, installed and ready to use by end August!
