Ok. Guys and Gals don't get me wrong I F%*#^@ hate TELSCUM....but lemme share my expirence with you...

I ordered my ADSL 384 Supreme PACKAGE (I know, I know but hey my company pays XXX per mnth for ADSL allowance so y not make them pay my Telkom line rental too) anyway , i faxed them through the contract on the 10th Novmeber 2005 at about 16:00, I got a call on my cell at 13:45ish on SUNDAY saying that they will install the line and deliver my WI-FI modem on Tuesday morining at 9:00am  I said yeah right i'll belive that K@K when i see it.

Trues BOB Tuesday morning 7:45 I get a call from the Telkom tech who is at the exchange just calling to confirm that he is busy with the ADSL line conversion and he will be at my hse in about and hour after TESTING the line for noise etc...OK now Im getting a bit trusting...at 9:00am my intercom rings the Tech is there with the modem and 2 line noise supppressors (I didn't tell them, I had a second extension). 10 Mins later he's done, I sign his book to say that he was there and that I was happy that it all works.

So i must give credit where credit is due....Thank(OW)You(OW)Telkom(OW) BUT

I get a call yesterday from the F%*#ERS saying "You akkount is oover da limeet and ish now R25xx.xx and we re goooing to kuut off you linee....so I had to call billing ON MY CELL becoz i was driving and speak to someone to find out WTF??? So it was traced to the backoffice charging me for the ADSL installation and the modem. My bill as of this morning R257.00, lets see what the manage to screw up next....as they have to pro rata me for this month + include my free 120 mins that the package entitles me too...i guess i will be speaking to THEM again soon.

Yeah just as i thought, this story is there under urban legends. :p

the technicians at Telkom are really great. However, Steve White and the rest of the bunch are absolutely useless....

Telkom Adsl - My installation experience

Here is the latest episode! Want to see the whole sad story - check my blog: http://wolfen351.blogspot.com

Day 40 - The technician tries to fix it - Line dead AGAIN!
Today, instead of coming to see me as he promised the previous day, the Telkom technician called me, around 3pm.

He explained that he cannot get the line to sync at a speed greater than 512kbps. I explained to him that the minimum I am willing to accept paying the price (i.e. 4mbps @ R1300 TCO pm), is 3mbps, and that 512k is only an eighth of the speed I am paying for. He was not interested in listening to me, told me repeatedly that I am too far from the exchange and that what I want cannot be done. I said, "Fine, but I want that in writing." He then told me that he is not allowed to give me anything in writing. I got upset at this point and told him that he has 2 options:
1) Fix the line to run at minimum 3mbps
2) Tell me - in writing - why he cannot.
He said that he would speak to his manager, and get back to me. Needless to say, that was the last I heard of him.

Starting to think that accountability is not something that occurs anywhere in Telkom.

Naturally, when I arrived home this evening the line was dead. Not sure if he unplugged it because I am unreasonable for wanting what I pay for, or if he set it at 4mbps and now it doesn't work. Either way - Telkom - I can now offically say that I am beyond belief in your inability to provide the product you sell.

This is now the second outage of service I've had, since the line was installed. The first was for 3 days, making the total downtime 10% so far - And they haven't even finished the installation yet!

But, everyone knows that Telkom can make ADSL work beyond it's capabilities , and, when the Techie tells the user the nature of the problem, the user tries to corner the techie. :wtf:

Such epic fails.

Dude, ADSL has a range/speed limit. Telkom cannot overcome this.
