Over the past 3 or 4 months, I trialled a Telkom Mobile Prepaid sim card. The service was good, the coverage is good, data speeds are great, voice quality is just as good. At the beginning of December, I decided to take out 2 TM contracts. The first number was a port in from Vodacom and within 3 hours, we were connected. The second contract was a port from Telkom Pre Paid to Telkom Contract. It has now been a month and we have had endless hassles with the second contract.

The telkom number we had and wanted to move onto the second contract has still not been done after a month now. I've walked into the TM at shop at least 4 times now. Every time, it was pretty much the same response: "Wait 72 hours", "Wait 72 hours", "Oh we didn't know you had a Telkom Mobile prepaid number, now it will go through immediately". I phone almost every day now (when I can get through), and this week it was "escalated to an executive level". On Monday at 15:30, I received a call from Freedom in Pretoria Telkom saying that they are going to recycle my number. This will only take 4 hours. So what they did was delete my other number that I had and it's still not working. I've been assigned a random Telkom Mobile number. This was supposed to take 4 hours, and we are now heading for 48 hours.

While I do not believe that this is Telkom Cape Gate's problem, I encourage you to do the following BEFORE considering taking out a Telkom Mobile contract:

1) Phone the Telkom Mobile store that you want to deal with. In my case it was Cape Gate. The number for them is: 021 981 9462. I've phoned this number three times today now and it does not get answered. Yesterday, I had to phone about 4 times before the phone eventually got answered.

2) Go to the actual shop and time how long it takes before you are assisted. In my case, it's been 30 minutes on every occasion that I walk in.

3) DO NOT take out a Telkom Moble contract if you have a Telkom Mobile Prepaid number and want to keep that number.

I must add that the first contract was taken out through Telkom Mobile (Feathercom). The second contract was Telkom Direct which is giving issues.
