Hi,

I just got my wireless today, and i must say the speed is really slow. I get about 5kbps for both up and down. is that normal? my signal strength is between 3& 4 bars and my signal quality is between 2&3 bars.

will the speed increase if i get an antenna? or is it the weather today? or is it the tower (stay in parkhurst)? what must I do?

First time sentech and already disappointed!!

problem though

thanks 4 the input, i read the 2004 posts, and yes i am crying, i knew sentech is **** but i got no other option right now (need net 2do work).

anyway, changing the MTU size might help, however i can't do that right now becasue the modem is connected via USB (did not get the ethernet cable R220 extra WTF?), Dr TCP does not want to detect the device.

the MTU size of the modem is set to auto, so i dont even know what size the MTU is. Largest recommedned MTU seems to be 1430 after the test i did.

so thats that, unless i am doing something wrong or missing something, i can't change the MTU on the modem unless i connected via a ethernetport as a PPPoE?.

There is something wroong at the moment

Last week has been VERY slow

this morning international was down, back just after i posted, but still quite slow, not getting the same consistant downloads ect i got yesterday

better speeds

getting better speeds now. changed MTUetc.

but still not great

local up 6kb/s down 10kb/s
int up 4kb/s down 4kb/s

i've found that speeds have been vary variable the last week or so.
i wonder if it's b/c at the beginning of the month, people do bandwidth intensive things b/c their caps have been reset.
(or how caps actually have the potential to degrade service).

Cap ? What cap

Have had Sentech 2 years now and never been told I have a cap, nothing in my contract, nor have they said anything even though ive downloaded over 80 gigs on some months on 256k package

they must have lost your phone number...

Speeds on Sentech have been SO BAD the last week that I've been forced to do all my casual surfing at work.

Let's put it this way: I went to visit my father over Christmas who lives in Swaziland. I got to experience his 28k dial-up for a week. I can honestly say that Sentech 256k is THE SAME speed as 28k dial-up, I jest ye not!!!!

It's not normally this slow. I'm sure it's a passing thing :)

Ja, it is WAY slow- found this on their bulletin board, posted today :

International Internet Connectivity: 05 January 2006

Our international internet service provider is currently experiencing a failure on their network resulting in degraded international internet access for Sentech users.

i don't know why now suddenly, int has been slow since late monday, early tuesday

OK blonde moment here, things have been so good since the October debacle that I thought my slowness , and yes "disconnections" must be something to do with me and my computer ... duh

Int'l speed has been craptacular for some time now, as has been well and truly lamented on this site; but late last night all of a sardine it seems to have come right with a vengeance! I torrented down a *gasp* legally free (FOSS) CD (see http://www.softwarefor.org) and it positively raced down at 50KB (-10%/+5%) the entire time, and that with other DL's running quite happily too.

More to the point, as I sit here the box that runs emule is STILL humming along nicely - we may just have escaped from the doldrums here .. well, here's hoping at any rate.

Slow Speeds

PhantomPhondler, welcome to the wonderful world of Sentech My Wireless, where you pay big bucks every month to have a "Always on" internet connection. However, like us folk who have been on it a year or more, you will soon come to realise that all is not what it seems. Often you will wish you never relinquished your dial up connection because often, it's much faster than MW, I kid you not. As for "always on", well, there's a reason I put that text in inverted commas. A reason that you will soon also discover. Just go to sentech dot coza and click on "maintenance and fault notifications". Read the list, but be aware that not all of the problems we experience are listed on there and you will have some idea of the trauma we have to live with. One day, you will get to deal with the call center. Make yourself some tea and cookies before you phone them, because you're in for a long session and at the end of it, your'e probably like us, no better off and you end up wondering why you bothered to phone them in the first place. But do as the good man says, and reboot your PC, short out the metal pins on the back of your modem and presto, it's still the same!!!
Welcome to 24 months of slow hell. I would advise anyone considering this service to read these forums and read Sentechs "maintenance and fault notifications", before making a decision.

Slower than a dial up

Yes yes, Sentech is slower than a dial up. I fully agree (at least with my 128 package) what about the 256 or the 512 package? are they also DAMM slow?

BTW i did not sign a contract so there is no 24 month hell 4 me. but its hell anyway.

The other thing is when there is bad weather like the storm beginning of this week my signal goes away.

Can anyone help me with a 2nd hand antenna?
