Hi Guys.
I don't know if this has probably been mentioned before, and if it has I apologize.

With all this nonsense pay-as-you-go attitude telkom is bringing in on Nov 1, I hope the MyADSL community is lodging a new complaint against telkom to ICASA.

I was reading in BigNews, and the front cover story is “Disgruntled owner tackles Telkom” and it tells of a small business owner that is unsatisfied at being forced to buy a 512k business connection which is overkill for what he needs, and rather wants 192k DSL. Anyway, this has landed Telkom is trouble with the competition commission.

I recon we must give telkom as much sh*t as possible about this scheming of theirs. I recon we should plan marches or protests in the major cities before Nov 1. And find out exactly what ICASA are doing about this. They seem to be acting rather strangely, as though they got something from Telkom to keep quiet.

Regards

i agree with you

i reckon we could organise it i mean there are so many myadsl ppl?

would anyone do this though?

I would be surprised, and immensely disappointed, should the price changes come into effect without a very loud and very public condemnation from MyADSL as a whole (as opposed to individuals who happen to also be members of MyADSL).

I am in . It is importent that a users group will rty to protect their rights. Let it be on the record that ICASA is totally useless.

Hi

The stuff Telkom is doing 1st Nov are covered in the ICASA findings... If Telkom goes ahead with 1st Nov it will strengthen our cause...

:)

Smile and nod...

And keep supporting ICASA in nailing Telkom...

Relax...

If ICASA is prevented from nailing Telkom we will have to get worried, but so far so good...

Ant, my concern, as mentioned in the other thread is, ICASA has already approved the pricing changes according to the ISP letters sent to customers (or at least when you get to speak to the ISPs by phone or email). LG, has contacted ICASA directly and they were not even aware of the billing changes come Nov 1.

The problem I have is that 1 month of this per GB billing "nonsense" (will refrain) will be one month too much for me and possibly for other consumers. Telkom shouldn't be allowed to implement the per GB billing even for 1 month.

Only Telkom would do something like this a month before Christmas!

No can do - I live in world where wrongs don't necessarily get righted by silence and happy thoughts. If LG's assertion are correct about ICASA not even being aware of the impending increases then we're not being vocal enough.

I was being sarcastic but I agree. Smile and nod is a bad choice of words and seeing as it is too late to edit now I humbly appologise. :o [Also scratch the word RELAX from that post because I for one am anything but relaxed. I did have a hectice weekend, which might explain the "relax" in the post. ;)]

However, I do believe the complaint we have entered with ICASA already covers this and should sort things out. I did reply to posts in the other thread, which should make clear why there is no 2nd complaint to ICASA.

I am however of the opinion that individual complaints via fax, phone or email cannot hurt...

:)

For those wanting to read the ICASA findings report, please visit ICASA http://www.icasa.org.za/Documents.aspx?Page=43

It is on that page... right at the top last time I looked. It is also available for download from http://home.telkomsa.net/rudolph/icasa-adsl.pdf

Cheers
Antowan

PS. I also know that at least one ISP has taken this issue to ICASA, which leaves one to think that by now ICASA must certainly know about the 1st of Nov.

BTW, I am also not sure how long I can stay on my chosen ADSL package. I might have to downgrade come 1st November...

It is a serious problem...

antowan, im in the same boat ;/ i might even have to go down to dial up :(

Yes Arcadies. It is just way too much money Telkom is asking us to pay for a service that is so important for the country. We are but a lucky few who can currently afford it but I know of countless people who already downgraded or gave up the service. I am spending way too much money on communications and if I am pushed too far come 1st November I will downgrade to the 192 option.

I spend more than R2000 a month on communications. All of that just for me! One person! It is just insane! No more I tell you, no more. This camel has had enough and I am betting a lot of chips on ICASA to fix things. If they do not come through... well... The fight will go on with ever slower and slower connections I guess...

:(

the 1st of November is going to be a very sad day for South Africa. You read through these forums and discover that other countries broadband and dsl products are getting bigger, faster, unshaped and cheaper. In SA it seems telkom does not follow the same trends. In SA it gets faster, smaller, shaped and more expensive.

The 1st of nov is coming and the speed at which the gov/icasa wheels turn, it will be the middle of next year before they do anything. :(

get the vaseline out.

If the changes are going to happen on the 1st, I can see a whole lot of emails heading down ICASAs throat. First of all how can ICASA approve Telkom's increased ADSL pricing when the ICASA report clearly states the the regulations will reduce ADSL end-user costs. Point number 2, where are the draft regulations, I have seen nothing in Government Gazettes or on ICASA's website with regards to the regulation drafts.

Telkom just can't say "Guess what Joe Public, you are now going to pay more for ADSL HAHAHAHAHA !!", this is quite unaceptable and the fact that it was mentioned in ICASA's report also suggests to me that Telkom does not take the regulator that seriously.

The largest single shareholder is ANC/Government. If either hat wearer were at all serious about cost reduction, rather than lining of piggy pockets, the situation could be resolved by an SGM accusing the board of reckless trading, as the board's continued acceptance of Telkom's piggy policies will eventually lead to the downfall of the organisation.

But they won't as it would lead to lack of piggy pocket lining, so i(e)Casa will continue to be ignored prior to its disembandment for being unpatriotic.

UPDATE TO THIS MESSAGE: CHECK FORUM ANNOUNCEMENT!!!!!

Many people have asked about avenues for complaints with regard to the 1st of November changes to ADSL charges and capping. I have spoken to ICASA and they are of the opion that complaints can indeed help strengthen the findings report. I therefor ask that as many people as possible complain by sending an email (they prefer email for tracking purposes) to:

D Ngoasheng (Senior manager consumer affairs)
Email: [email protected] (liason)

The following fax number can be used if you have to fax, but only if you really cannot email:
Fax: 0114481369

Send your complaints through ASAP! Any material you might have received from your ISP or Telkom should also be forwarded with due notice...

Thanks in advance
Antowan
