MyBB guide to quitting smoking

12th of August last year and yes, cold turkey. Not a drag or a hankering for a drag since. So it's going quite swimmingly, thanks. :)

It's not about arguing though, it's about seeking to make a constructive suggestion. The fact that some can't grasp that is hardly my problem.

I am fairly certain i said i would get the book from my uncle and look at it, stop moaning boet. As rocket says this is a support thread and your suggestion was noted and i will utilize it when i get the book.

I recall haptic saying he quit for a year now which is impressive if he went cold turkey.

Yea rocket that bad mood bro, can't shake it :(. In the last 4 months though my work situation is way less stressful, i am not under as much pressure as i have been in the past so perhaps this time the rage will be less. I also change my sleeping tablet from a short acting to a long acting one benzo which could have been the cause of my anger, mood swings from benzo withdrawal and nicotine haha now it will just be nicotine :D. I might even request a script for a benzo during the day to calm me down if need be but then benzo addiction during the day could be worse than smoking.

You are correct this is suppose to be a support thread, apologies :D. Yea thanx for the support bro i fking better do it this time, at some point i will nail it :D, hopefully this time if my time!!!!!!

You will get there bro, its got to happen soon or later.

Well done on the quitting, I still recon its one of the hardest things to get right.
I guess its like anything in life, different stokes and all that.

What I'm saying - and it's really all I'm saying - is that 1) it's perhaps not quite as hard as what people convince themselves it is, and 2) reading a wee lil' book in addition to taking your prescription meds is unlikely to do any harm.

It's less about a brute mind-over-matter approach which is almost doomed to fail, and more about seeing whether you can effect a shift in mindset.

But hey, smokers are a touchy lot. :D

Yup my uncle reckons it's a life long battle. He has quit for just over a decade. Basically what he said to me is he will always be a nicotine addict, all it takes is a few smokes to be right back where he was 10 odd years ago.

You are bang on. I tried a million times to stop and eventually thought that people who had stopped weren't as hooked as I was. I was on at least 25 a day and thought I couldn't live without them. You know those guys who accept they can't stop and tell you so? That was me.

But as you say, in the end it was far easier to stop than I ever imagined because brute strength has got nothing to do with it. It's all about IMHO getting your mind straight.

Even now, I still marvel at how fscking stupid the whole thing is :D

When you smoked did you enjoy it or did you know you hated it but struggled to get off it? Was it the carr book that got you off it?

I tried the Alan Carr book too, it didnt work for me but then its probably because he takes so long to make a single point which really annoys me.

Some people are like that, they miss smoking and all that came with it (social aspects etc)
Some people dont feel anything after a while, hopefully you will be one that doesnt battle later on, like haptic says it becomes a mental battle after a few months.

The mental part i can deal with, raging 24/7 is something i can't lol but hopefully with my new environment and longer acting benzo my anger issues will be the less of an issue.

I already have the mental aspect sorted out and i smoke, i hate them, i hate spending the money and i hate the taste :D. Now if i can get the mood right i will be 100%

I suppose it was a bit of both. I enjoyed certain smokes when socialising or breaking up a stressful day for example, but those smoke breaks seemed more necessary from a mental pov than an enjoyable puff with a beer in hand.

But most of the smokes IMHO were habitual smokes. I'm not saying I wasn't craving them because I was, but they were more an act of routine because it's what you did. You smoked when you could, when you realised you hadn't for a while or at certain times in your routine.

Now I know this is only my opinion, but it worked for me getting the act and it's hold on me into perspective. For example, I'm sitting in an airport lounge in gay Paris at the moment enjoying a nice coffee instead of running about like a muppet trying to find out where I can have a puff. That's my normal routine when flying. Rushing off of one plane with a smoke on my mind before even thinking about where the next gate is.

Same with my first smoke of the day or the one after lunch etc etc etc. Break the habit by doing something else.

Man they calling my flight :D but trust me killa, it's not as near difficult as you think it is. Don't read up on the negatives, try the positives first and you'll see you're no different from the rest of us.

Spizz in the past it hasn't been my mind that has suffered bro, when are you angry 24/7 and your fiancee is glad you started smoking again you know something isn't right, believe me there is nothing that can fix an angry body. No positivity just pure raw anger but again, job, fiancee, stress, short acting sleeping tablet etc might have contributed to the anger factor. Being a sales rep i am on the road a lot and let me tell you, road rage is not fun LOL

So this time i have the job stress sorted, no more fiancee, long acting sleeping tablet so we will see :D. If i can sort out the bad angry 24/7 mood i will kick the habit :D. Plus i am gyming a lot so i am more active in that regard so i got a feeling it is the right time to kick the habit in it's moer!!!!!!!!

First tablet down.

Only had 6 for the day sofar...

Coming down from 40+ per day...

O sweet dj, that is awesome. I can use that everyday to keep me going. Although i am with discovery, do i need to be with momentum to make use of that?

Is there a blackberry app that i can use?

The Momentum ad is simply that - an ad to monetise the app. The app is called Cessation Nation. I'm not sure whether there is a Blackberry app for it but I'm sure Blackberry will have their own inferior version of a quitting tracking app...:p

I have an android tablet, blackberry would be better though as i am on the road so it's just easier to view if i get a craving. BB may be inferior but it saves me money and keeps me mobile so for that hells yea, the phone is a total piece of shyte though. If only samsung had SIS :p

The data costs are now pretty much identical...
