Well - Killarney has track days and we just enter :p

One going down this weekend on Saturday, but there's another coming up on 13 September.

Anyone done this before.
Anyone interested to?

I could never make it with the BMWFanatics guys before.

But nou ja, what you okes and okettes think?
I wouldn't mind a few laps around the circuit.

Info from this weekend's track day, which I trust will be similar to that of September are:

Drivers briefing 15 minutes before the start of the event.

No loud or excessively noisy vehicles allowed at Killarney.
R300 per driver, 2013 WPMC members R200 (must produce membership book), R50 for passengers.
Helmets available for hire, R80 excl deposit. 0215571639
Go Pro cameras will also be available for hire (TBC)

Points to note for drivers: First timers must be present for the safety brief at the start of the event.
Your entry can be rejected if you are not present at the briefing at the start of the event.

Fees:
R300 per driver
R200 for WPMC members (membership book must be produced at entries / documentation)
R50 for passengers
Drivers will be separated into three groups:
Group 1: Easy group – No passing under brakes / single file in the corners.
Group 2: Experienced group – Out braking is allowed / No overtaking in the corners.
Group 3: Pro Group – This is for the very experienced driver and race vehicles at race pace.

No excessively loud vehicles allowed at all. The organizers will be conducting sound tests and reserve the right to stop further participation if, in the organizers sole opinion, your car is excessively loud.

All vehicles will be subject to a safety check, everything must be in good working order. No cracks in the brake disks, battery to be securely fastened.
Drivers & passengers: Long sleeve tops, long pants, closed shoes and an SABS approved helmet are required for passengers and drivers. Helmets are available for hire on the day, R80 each excl deposit.

This concept is foreign to Capetonians :p

Move it to Jhb instead :D

Unless I'm checking that squiff that there calendar shows a drag event on the 13th, not a track day.

Squint you are then :p
14th is Drag race ;)

Ima have to insist that you look at your posted schedule again. Not that it matters; my little diesel MPV would look ****ing ridiculous on a track, and I'm a helluva long way from Cape Town. :D

*edit*

There's a track day in 2 days' time. ;)

My bigger worry is that it absolutely rapes your car and beyond that insurance in South Africa still seems to be seriously lacking with regards to covering these events.

With the bike it's less of a problem as the standard specification is basically race kitted anyway and insurance understands the need in most cases.

Forget about what you drive and what it may look like.

It's about learning to drive better and having fun, both which you can do in a Mini from 1960 for that matter.

It's often the guys with the cars/bikes that should be fast that struggle the most because they are actually pretty poor drivers.

I've a decent bit of mileage 'round Kyalami under my belt, thanks. ;)

Haptic thou shalt attend the VW club track day at Kyalami at the end of September.

Apologies- don't have my specs on :p

See its only Street2Strip

Yes, saw this one for Saturday - but have plans already unfortunately.

EDIT:

And btw - I'd love to have some time going around trying different lines into corners with my e46 320d. Its not so much about the speed as the technical things I'd like to have fun with. Braking points, keeping a good clean line through the corner, exit speed, etc

That's the fun thing... I've got a few corners/lines in the roads here that are fun to do like that, to keep my speed around the corner without having to brake or anything, but now they've gone and put up massive speed bumps...

Hehe - got a few of those in certain areas too :)

No noisy cars at trackday? Wtf. What do the Marshalls see as excessively noisy at these events? Would a Tracked out beach buggy be allowed? Coz mine basically runs a 4in1 trumpet out the back and is hella noisy. Not unlike a Harley.
