Inspired by the thread MyBB'ers in the Netherlands - I thought it would be good to run a poll to see how many MyBB'ers we have in Australia and where most people have settled and just for some general chit chat!

Happy to answer any questions anyone has but some background to kick off.

I live in Melbourne (officially the most locked down City in the world...), its generally been a great place (besides lock downs) there is normally a lot going on in this city catering to all different types, some people cant put up with the weather but I don't find it that bad having grown up in PE. I have lived in 4 different suburbs in Melbourne but finally settled down now and brought a place for longer term.

Travelled a little bit since I have arrived, been to Adelaide (I class it as the Port Elizabeth of Australia), Sydney, Tasmania, and various parts of Queensland. All very different but have been really interesting places to visit. Still need to make my way to Perth but it is surprisingly far away from the rest of Australia (+-4hr flight from Melbourne). You can fly to New Zealand (have not been) and Fiji (been and seems like the Maldives of Australia) in a similar amount of time.

I've been living here for around 5 years, moved over here on a sponsorship but was progressing my own PR application before I left South Africa, got my PR after being here for around 6 months (I did my CA in South Africa, but made friends with other saffas that came across as mainly as finance professionals, engineers & teachers). Applied for my Citizenship in June of 2020 and officially became a citizen in Sept 2021. I have recently applied for the passport which should take about 3 weeks to arrive (for context I needed to renew my SA passport while I was here, that took 1 year!).

I have met a ton of South Africans here, often when just going for a walk to the park, in the shopping centres or just through work you can hear the accent haha!

Interested to know if there are many active MyBB'ers who live in Aus and where are you from and what are you up to!

Yep that's all I started with as well. Got here on a sponsorship then applied for my own skilled visa.

The job market is Aus at the moment is really good, but this is driven by the borders still being closed! I do recon that once our borders open up that the government will open the flood gates to immigration to stimulate the economy! If you are in IT and accounting I think there are exemptions for the border restrictions.

I have lived in Melbourne through all the lockdowns, I don't agree with how anything in those videos were handled, but police have also resigned because they don't feel right implementing those laws.

Ultimately if you agree with it or not, if you break the law (again if you agree it should be law or not is irrelevant) then generally police rock up. I don't think it was a good use of law enforcement, but at the same time a lot of people in Melbourne would have been equally pissed at the protestors because ultimately they are undoing the lockdown, which is a pretty painful thing.

This is a tough situation because yes our freedoms have been restricted by implementing lock down laws and there is little way to protest without directly breaching the laws you are protesting against.

In a normal situation you protest via public gathering against something else (cutting down forests etc) so you are not breaking the law that your are protesting against.
 
Both my brother and sister has made the move 10+ years ago, not so easy to get in anymore, if it was I would have been there already
 
Moved over to Melbourne in March 2016. Did my citizenship test 2 months ago and now just awaiting a date for my ceremony before it's official and I can get my Aus passport (not that we can use it any time soon).

Been to Perth, Brisbane, Gold Coast, NZ and of course Bali as you cant be considered Aussie without going there. Took a road trip to Blue Mountains, Sydney, up to Coffs harbour and was supposed to come down the coast back to Melbs but was in the peak of the fires so diverted through Hunter Valley and Canberra. In the near future looking at going to Fiji, great barrier, Adelaide, Perth again (so we can try the Spur :D :D) and when we have Aus passport Hawaii.

Bought a house and land package near Cranbourne which I moved into almost 3 years ago now. Grew up in Jhb so the weather does wear me down a bit. Jhb weather is generally beautiful and hot this time of year where I'm still sometimes using my elec blanket like last night. Weather is quite bipolar but it seems like the hot days are during the week while im working and the rain on weekends :(

All in all happy with the move and would do it again in a heartbeat.

Ah hectic that's pretty close to my timing. I got here in May 2016.

I recon your ceremony date will be close because they have resumed doing online ceremonies and they can now also do it in groups of 10 to 15 people, apparently in the last batch of online they were done individually. Mine took almost exactly 3 months and they called me like 2 days beforehand.

Yea I bit the bullet and just applied straight away for the passport because apparently there are a ton of people who haven't renewed expired passports due to covid which could cause a backlog. And I just want it haha.

If you want any tips for Fiji feel free to send me a message, we went in 2019 and I did a fair bit of research and planning before hand which I still have in my dropbox. Would also highly recommend going to Vietnam if you enjoy food and exploring.

Great barrier reef was also great (I've actually been twice in my time here as well)!

Yep the change is generally constant, I remember in the time I started gathering the documents I needed for my own application to lodging, the points shifted around and I had to actually select another skills category because I didn't meet the points requirement in my original one.

Think the best way to get over is sponsorship, just had a quick look though, because of covid the only jobs listed for sponsorship are Registered nurses, Chefs and there was one of Big Data Engineer. Although know that auditors are in high demand at the moment and other IT professionals.

It's been pretty cold this year so far in SA, there's only been about 2-3 really hot days. I'm still sleeping with a thick blanket as well.
 
Fitzroy Island in QLD. We ended up going to Fitzroy Island while in Cairns it was a great spot with nice walking track around the island and beautiful scenery.

Main reason for being in Cairns was the great barrier reef, but it was also the rugby world cup finals so we watched South Africa beat England which was great, there were a ton of English supporters sad by the end of that night.
 
@Freaksta based in Sydney, arrived early in the year on a 189 visa. Haven't done many trips yet due to settling in first and then the damn lockdowns. Enjoying Sydney, biggest downside is the cost of living, specifically housing. Apart from that cannot complain at all. Things just work, havent been attacked yet by the venomous, vicious Aussie wildlife either :-p

Haha true, I haven't been though! It's on the to do list, wonder when they will let AU tourists back in.
