Can you only update by having access to xbox live? Last I had an update was when I bought a new game.
Would I still get an update even if I have no access to pc(internet)

I was prompted to update last night. Declined it because I was downloading something else. On a UK account btw, not sure if that makes a difference.

Here's what the update contains:

• Reflashes the DVD drives : PLDS DG-16D4S, PBDS VAD6038 and PLDS DG-16D2S, to a new stock firmware : 0272, 04421C, 02510C.
• Table and anti-piracy 2.5 scheme updated.
• Support for new XGD3 disk format for games, adds 1GB of usable disk space and extra anti-piracy features to new games (This may not be compatible with some older model XBOX 360s.)
• Adds PayPal support as a payment option for all Xbox Live users, except Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Czech Republic, Finland, Greece, Hungary, India, Japan, Russia, South Africa, South Korea and Taiwan.
• Avatar Kinect. Allowing players to scan their face in real-time to match with their avatar.
• Adds multi-language voice commands for Kinect. (French and German confirmed.)
• Minor bugfix.

without acess to the internet no you cant update until the newer games have the update on them
you can downlaod the update from the xbox website and copy it to cd or USB *i think( but last time it tried it didnt work
