Has anyone made use of MyOwn ISP? Out of the couple of ISPs Ive looked at they seem to be the only one with capped and uncapped at a reasonable price even though they have a FUP on uncapped.

Let me just wrap my head around this... Just looked at their site, they don't offer more than 40mbps on either vumatel or openserve and the price for 40mbps uncapped is almost as expensive as coolideas 100mbps uncapped which we know is tried and trusted. Am I missing something? I don't see any mention of capped packages on the site either or mention of 100mbps, and they charge for installation (seems there is a 50% off deal running). Does not look like good value to me. Much better options out there based off what I can see.

Our FTTH service provider is SADV and they 'offered' a 10/10 upcapped throttled at 400GB for R595. Capped 10/10 packages on a 20GB for R450. The capped is for senior members that wont ever make use of uncapped.

I guess for those use cases it's good. As soon as it gets to the 100mbps heavy users I'd rather stick to the tried and trusted.

Good afternoon,

I am the commercial champion for MyOwn ISP. That is correct. We are one of the few ISP's that still offers capped packages. Simply because we believe that not everyone needs uncapped and that it makes sense to offer something a bit cheaper for lower data users.

Good afternoon sirbluepants,

I am the one responsible for our website and capped packages are in the process of being uploaded to the website. We also supply services on Openserve, SADV, Frogfoot, Link Africa and FibreSuburb Networks, but unfortunately not Vumatel yet. Our 100 and 200Mbps packages will be launched soon on the Openserve network too with lowered pricing. We are extremely excited to launch them. Our pricing on SADV for a 100Mbps uncapped is currently R 1 099. We are hoping to do the same with Openserve.

Regards

We do offer the 100Mbps @ R 1 099 on the SADV network. No worries when it comes to tried and tested. We have been supplying fibre ISP services to estates in South Africa for more than 10 years under the holding company of ATEC Systems and Technologies. This means that we have a much better understanding of fibre and fibre networks than most of our competitors. Not even to mention our remotely managed devices that allows for minimal time wasted when giving technical support as we can resolve 80% to 90% of all queries from the office.

Have a great weekend!

Sounds very promising! Thanks for the update. Good that the website is being updated, i know many people like to do their own research before phoning any ISPs and if it's not listed on the website then most assume it's not available.

Sound good! We'll have to wait and see what the feedback is from users, and then also the available packages once the site is updated. Having used ISPAfrika who is also regarded as unknown to most, the service was great and still is, so I'm a big advocate for "unknown" ISPs. Personally though, for ftth i would never use an isp with a managed router. I did my ccnp so I'm sure i can manage my own, and would want the option to do so. Don't want to call my ISP everytime i need to change my wifi password or something, but in a lot of cases where the client just wants their internet to work, it's good if they can log a call and the ISP can sort everything out from the office.

I'll keep an eye on you guys, all the best!

I definitely do agree. You can still change most of the settings on your side and we can always set up port forward for clients such as yourself. Thanks for the well wishes. We will make a difference in the Open Access industry.

Regards,

Riaan

Hi Riaan
Strongly suggest you pm RPM and arrange to be made a formal representative for the company on this forum

More than 10 years you say? I'm interested to hear of such examples please.

I thought you were an ISP, not an open access network?

Atec supplied telecommunication, security and management systems over fibre for more than 10 years. MyOwn ISP is now a division of Atec that still supply those closed networks as well as open access networks with ISP services.

Yes we are an ISP, but will still make a difference on the open access networks in South Africa.

Have a great Sunday!
