MySignal - Version 4.1

Over the past few weeks some of us here have been experimenting with various signal strengths versus other parameters and it has been found like TheRodent once said that the Signal Strength is not really the most important factor.
The Signal to Noise (Interference) level is equally as important, if not more.
Setting up an antenna is therefore a lot more critical than just heading for max signal strength as the amount of interference around is amazing.
A good signal strength with a good S-N-L (Signal to Noise Level) will improve your BER (Bit Error rate) and overall give you the best connection.

MySignal 4.1 now has a second large display so you can watch and compare 2 different readings to obtain the optimum requirement.
These two displays are defaulted to the Signal Strength and the Signal to Noise Level which is basically the RSCP less the ISCP.

MySignal 4.1 now also remembers the last selected Connection which solves the problem where some people it selected their default logon which could be any standard modem connection.

Excellent idea, piping it thru sound card. Will surely help the ceiling installers and those whose family members refuse to help'em anymore [:D]

I've had a couple of reports now that people are still getting version 4.0 with the link above, which is wierd as I even deleted the file completely from the server and they were still downloading 4.0 which is impossible.
Must be some sort of cache taking place locally on their PC's.
Anyone ever heard or come across this ?

Anyway I have put a second file up there now for those with this problem:

I did our company's Telemetry system like that.

Stupid question, but, what is a good/ideal/perfect S-N-L. I get 8. Seems to perform good enough for my needs.

So how can I reduce the noise interference?

Just a matter of trying the antenna in different spots, but if you're happy with your connection then dont worry about it [:)]

Well, I don't know if it reduced my noise, but what I did is I bought a patch antenna and mounted it in the loft.

Then ran the cable down into a cupboard, where the modem and hub sleep. I then connected modem and all (2) computers to hub, and connected modem to hub using ethernet cable.

Signal is about 2 lights and 10%, but I never (touch wood) get dropped, and the downloads are generally pretty good when they aren't having known problems with the network.

The signal quality doesn't seem to vary much - it's a pretty stable level.

Should SNR be low or high? I get 16 SNR and 71% Bit Error Rate. Is this good or bad. Just want to know which numbers should be high and which should be low.

I just want to thank ProAsm for all his support on this forum. He's worth his weight in gold 10x over!!

ProAsm - What do you have planned for the next release, if any ?

Or would you rather do something for the PCMCIA ?

using Mysignal41 with PCMCIA,I CAN CONNECT ,DISCONNECT ,PING

I CANNOT GET ANY TOWER,SIGNAL,S-N-L OR FREQUENCT INFO

WHY?

Well apparently it does work to some extent .... would love to get the PCMCIA & MySignal going on a old Toshiba mini-notebook we have at the office.

ProAsm has already given as answer on this:

"I'm trying to get hold of a pcmcia card atm, until then there is not much I can do".

strange one here guys..
mysignal 4.1 doing weird things. when launched there is NO signal and noise info displayed, when i try to connect it then suddenly shows signal strength etc. but WONT connect. have to use original sentch dialer... ???? i installed xp service pack 2 today. could that be it?

If no signal etc was displayed means MySignal did not initialize properly.
Try clicking on the little lightning icon, that initializes it also.
I'm still trying to lay my hands on a PCMCIA card, eish you'de think I wanted to borrow some military secret - probably short of them.
