MySignal Version 5.6

This version has lots of new goodies [:)]

Support for different ISP and Access passwords. If the Access password is blank, then the ISP Password will be used for both passwords.
Old password keys in INI file (Password and Original) are no longer used.
New password keys in INI file are IspPassword and AccPassword.

Windows Close (X) button now minimizes MySignal to the System Tray.

System Tray icon now animated to show the state of the connection as follows:
RED - Disconnected.
YELLOW - Busy connecting.
DARK - Connection is idle.
GREEN - Activity on connection.

Connection status LED moved from Toolbar to next to Connection Selection.

Plays sounds on Connect and Disconnect - default and user specified wavefiles.
User can select his/her own sounds in the Sounds folder.
Now you can hear when you get disconnected [:D]

Option to append to, or clear the log file when launching MySignal.

Redesigned Config tab to accommodate the additional option settings.

The 4 Links in the About Window are now totally configurable in both Name and URL.

Speed option added for Min - Max - Ave in kbits/sec
This speed option is only a rough estimate and should only be accepted during downloads as it only samples the incoming bytes if there was no interuption for 10 seconds.
A second display on the front Network tab will show a current speed in kbits (also a rough estimate over 10 seconds)
NB.. Development on the speed monitoring is ongoing [:)]

Hi ProAsm

For some reason when I run this version of Mysignal i.e ver 5.6 I can connect to the tower but traffic boyond that doesn't work so pings don't reach www.sentech.co.za or even www.saix.net the device only connects to the tower.. and the connecting ip is something like 102.xxx.xxx.xxx which is nowhere in the sentech range as far as I know. Any idea what the issue is?

NOTE 5 minutes Later: OKAY NOW IT WORKS I don't know what I did diffrently or why it suddenly like me but it seems to work now mm.. could be that the firewall was stopping it for some reason. But it works fine now:)

Hi ProAsm,

Any chance you can add an "Auto refresh" type thing to the signal screen in MySignal? I find that when I'm trying to find the optimum position for my antenna, it's a pain to have to keep pressing the signal button and then select the signal screen to optimize the ISCP and RSCP.

Otherwise great new features...

I just downloaded this and for me, with runing a PII with loss98 this (and the previous few versions) hang after it loads, if I close and reboot a few tims I might get it to work. However, with a laptop with XP it works fine.

ProAsm,

Any chance you are going to add ethernet support in the near future?

ProAsm, if i may be as bold, what is the news re: sentech?

crappy speeds = me :)

Corporate MyWi starts in November and that will be one level up so should not interfere with us here.
Voip I hear will start in February on MyWi and whether it will go up a level, I'm not sure at this stage.

But how can they provide VOIP and Corporate packages if they can't even have decent speeds on the packages they have currently?

I am sure if you read the general forum, you'd notice that people even have trouble getting a 21kbps audio stream going. 56k even preforms better than that?

How would they expect VOIP to work? Call now, and get disconnected every 2 minutes????

Nevermind... I shot off an email to miss/mrs potgieter and i'm going adsl as soon as telkom can install it. Cancelling, because 512k barely gets 4.6kb/s and multithreaded it averages 128k

sucks ass

I doubt they will get any customers on corporate, unless they are on different networks or something. Sentech's customers and bad publicity will have cost them so much - and also, most corporates will wait for iburst (feb next year from what I hear) and use them instead.

Sentech MyWireless will never have much market share unfortunately. Or if it does, it will take many years to recover. Well done Sentech!

ProAsm,
Why do you need a router? You can plug the ethernet cable directly into a hub (or use a crossover cable) and communicate with it using the built in PPOE from XP, or if you install the ethernet drivers from the Sentech CD, their modem dialler can access the modem. I was hoping you would be able to include support similar to what is available in the standard modem dialler but of course with your extra features. I would think using a router would be much more difficult as you would have to write code specific to each router to be supported.

Basically I know nothing about setting up an ethernet cable, I just presumed I would need a router as thats what everyone seems to use.
If you or someone can explain to me in plain English how to setup the cable so that it works with the modem to logon then I will have a go at it.

Hi ProAsm, sorry for the delayed reponse, been away for a few days. I'm no expert on setting up the ethernet cable, but I found 2 ways to get it working without any router required. First method is to select ethernet communications from the MyWireless install CD (will probably have to uninstall and then reinstall). The second method is with XP Create a new dialup connection, Select connect to the internet, select set up my connection manually, select broadband with username and password, enter details for ISP name (can be anything I think) and user name + Password, very easy.
Hope this helps.

With the first method, the IPW software installs two extra things, PPPOE098.EXE and WinPcap. WinPcap allows packets to be sent directly to the LAN card. I don't know exactly what PPPOE098 does, but the supplied dialer uses these. It's a long time since I played with this setup, but I found the Ethernet setup to be a bit unstable.

BTW, if you have installed for Ethernet, you can quickly switch between Ethernet and USB by changing the registry key "HKLM\SOFTWARE\IP Wireless Inc.\IPWireless Modem Software\Connector" from "PPPoE" to "USB" and visa versa.

I am able to use both PPPoE and USB without making any changes in the registry.

Any progress on the ethernet support yet ProAsm?
