I'm dumbfounded. Anyone care to speculate what happened here?

An abandoned hearse, a coffin, police and a corpse.

Mystery surrounded the discovery of an abandoned hearse with a coffin and a body inside found near the Koedoespoort train station yesterday - and its appears that even police had no idea which of their members went to the scene.

Despite earlier reports that police had been on the scene, the hearse and the coffin were still left where they were discovered by a passerby yesterday morning.

A Pretoria resident who picks up workers in the area got suspicious when the stench around the abandoned hearse kept on growing daily.

He noticed that there was a coffin inside the hearse and contacted the police, but they could not enter the area as they had to wait for their forensics team to arrive.

"The hearse has been there for a couple of weeks and there was a terrible smell coming out of there. I contacted the police, but I left them on the scene as they were waiting for their forensics team to arrive," said Garrett Rainier.

The hearse and the coffin were still on the scene yesterday evening and police stations in the area claimed they knew nothing about it.

A Mamelodi Cluster spokeswoman, Constable Portia Maleka, said Silverton police had no idea what the Pretoria News was referring to when it enquired about the hearse. She referred enquiries to the Villieria Police Station, whose spokeswoman Evelyn Hardaker referred the matter back to Silverton.
