Hi All

Can anyone help. I have heard that the new MyWireless modem and the firmware have compatibility issues with the WRT54G, they just dont communicate with each other. Have any of you come across this, if so, what is the fix or has anyone reported this Sentech or Linksys.
The versions are as follows:
WRT54G - 1.00.2
MyWireless - UE_5(1).0.1.68m

Thanks

confirm?

Do you mean: that you want to connect the MyWireless modem on the WAN port of the WRT54G and configure PPPoE?

Please NOTE very important. Linksys in their ultimate wisdom decided to change the latest V5 WRT54G routers to use non opensource software. This should not have an impact on 99% of users (as most use the default software anyway) but the issue is that this new software doesn't work with MyWireless! To tell if you have a V5 router, flip the router upside down and look just below the Linksys Logo (above the serial Number) and you will see the version written there. If it says V5, you are not going to be able to use this router (for now). We have been in communications with Cisco/Linksys on this issue and have identified the problem. Cisco are busy writing the updated firmware for this but we have not been given a date for the release of this. My guess is within 2 weeks.

Our recommendation at this time is to get a refund on your money and try to get an earlier version of the router OR try to get the WRT54GL (L standing for Linux) which will work OR wait a week or 2 (although this is PURELY a guess from my side).

What might be a better way to know what's inside the box -before- you stump up your cash and get lumped with something that your vendor now suddenly doesn't want back, check the 1st four digits of the serial number (or query your vendor about them over the phone/per email), the relevant codes/hardware version data are:

CDF0 = WRT54G v1.0
CDF1 = WRT54G v1.0
CDF2 = WRT54G v1.1
CDF3 = WRT54G v1.1
CDF5 = WRT54G v2.0
CDF7 = WRT54G v2.2
CDF8 = WRT54G v3.0
CDF9 = WRT54G v3.1
CDFA = WRT54G v4.0
CDFB = WRT54G v5.0

CGN0 = WRT54GS v1.0
CGN1 = WRT54GS v1.0
CGN2 = WRT54GS v1.1
CGN3 = WRT54GS v2.0
CGN4 = WRT54GS v2.1
CGN5 = WRT54GS v3.0
CGN6 = WRT54GS v4.0

Obviously, you'd want to avoid the CDFB-series like the plague. I pulled this data from /., link (goes to /.): http://tinyurl.com/aj2vr

There is a beta version patch available for this. If users require this, contact me on scottatjustconnect.co.za

Very sporting of you to have found, and then offer, a patch/workaround for this (bloody stupid, IMO) problem. And I wish anyone who takes a crack at it well; but, again IMO, this is *definitely* a time I wouldn't bring a beta version anywhere near a business environment!

I really think Cisco have stuffed this one BIG time and I'm not about to have anything to do with it- viva WRT54GL, viva! :D (..and of course the ~GS, naturally)

Router RE-availability!

JUST in time for Linksys Xmas-love: I have it from On High (i.e. the MD) at Miro that they're stocking WRT54G ...L routers, as from Monday. As we all (should) know, the ~GL is the old-skool Linux-capable model and is essentially the V4 model. As always, they sell to registered dealers BUT also sell to any schmoe off the street: in this case they'll be selling these routers at "R 707.85 excl VAT" (direct quote in email).

...sure, it may not be the flat-out cheapest price in town but it IS product we can use which, to me at least, is MILES ahead of quibbling about tens of rands worth of price difference. :D

Oh, FTR this is from the JHB branch- I have no answer for where this leaves CPT users, but seeing as Miro do have a branch there, I reckon getting stock down there isn't especially challenging..

Hi all

Yes we swopped our entire stock of the WRT54G that we had for the WRT54GL version. Please note that we will match the price mentioned above and will deliver in the greater JHB area. Contact us on infoATjustconnect.co.za. If you were unlucky enough to be caught with the WRT54G V5, I do have the beta patch.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but does anyone have any idea what this patch/workaround is that Scott is talking about? I tried emailing him but he's knocking boots somewhere on honeymoon.

Thanks

..notatall, it's quite refreshing to see that someone's actually taken the bother to actually LOOK for themselves! It also shows that this thread is incomplete in terms of not having a link from which to get it.

Yea, I've got it in email (all hail the power of GDS for digging it out for me!) ..but the ONLY place I have it is my mail, so PM me your email address and I'll send it on to you.

CAVEAT: it's an unknown *BETA* binary that may or may not brick your router. If you DO manage to turn your beastie into a paperweight, look in the mirror for someone to blame... :cool:

.. but someone at justconnect.co.za came through yesterday with the beta firmware and it worked like a charm.

Heh, your request generated a positive storm of responses on our internal mailing list; glad you're all sorted out though.

Just to bring some closure to this topic, if you own a WRT54G v5 router and have trouble connecting with your Sentech modem, the latest firmware (1.09) solves all issues.
