I've been wondering, based on the issues people have had here with MyWireless, how the average joe computer user is going to handle MyWireless ?

Pretty much everyone who posts here has some technical know how and basic understanding of internet connectivity.

I'm wondering about joe computer user who likes to surf and send an email, but is clueless about anything else - how the hell is he going to get MyWireless up and running with such useless (as we've found out) technical support ?

So joe computer sees the TV ad and goes "that looks great" and sends in his application. Assuming all goes correctly, he receives his modem and sets it up as per the instructions.

Nothing - no signal - he can't connect.
He doesn't know about these forums and doesn't even know what a forum is. The only hope he has is phoning technical support.

So, he phones and waits and waits and eventually gets through to one of the useless Sentech tech support people who may say something like :-

"Turn your computer off and on again"
"Move your modem around till you get a signal"
"Buy a patch antenna"

The mind boggles at how many dissapointed people there could be out there if this forum is anything to go by - before this bandwidth slowdown, the majority of people have been happy - but a lot of that has to do with the support received here.

Yeah i can imagine the support calls I'm going to have to field from my company's directors since I've been punting that they get 'connected'. *shudder* In fact maybe I should make a few phone calls and spare myself the pain.[;)]

People with R650+/month to spend on internet are either not average internet users, or are loaded. (My mouth waters when I see that wanadoo add : ADSL @ 15 euros/month).

I think the software install and setup works quite well. There are the ussual amount of incompatibilities eg. HT.

As for finding signal, a loaded person will easily spend money on a test, and/or antenna. They also tend to have notebooks with which it is easier to find signal.

I think the user experience will be dependant on the channel they purchase through.

Direct from Sentech, service provider or agent ? For the tecnical person or someone that has access to this forum the direct root might be sufficient, but for other not so ... as pointed out by Nic

Some "users" will be able to get this installed, while there will be problems that will baffle some technical minds.

I could not get connected using Sentech's disc, so I used ProAsm's doodad instead .... brilliant job !

There is going to be a hell of a lot of running around to be done soon as leads are starting to pile up after the first lot of early adopters. Can't wait to get ProAsm's program installed on a handheld, will make so much easier.

Will put some links onto out website, every MyWireless user should have access to this information.

Thanks for the learning curve.
