How did you work out that Sentech are charging us 3K for the modem. There's an activation fee of R 500.00 and then the monthly charges which are way below any other offerings besides ADSL.

Yea,

Where did you get that figure of R3000 from, unless thats how much YOU had to pay for it... Sorry for you.

And $199 is still a touch more than R1000, unless the Exchange rate dropped down to 5 while no-one was watching...

Actually it's 4.91 when I last checked(last night) and I got this from when Sentech product was launched where I got my information may have changed over the few months but when it was launched and the discussion came in on buying the modem then the amount for the modem came out. Check earlier posts on the forum.

A forum post doesn't prove any pricing, and also the pricing may have changed with exchange rate fluctuations.
The value of the modem will become public, fatcual knowledge when NoWire launches, since they will be selling modems direct.

You dont own the modem. Cerberus is right, this was discussed extensivly and people from Sentech and Fastcom even quoted the modem at approximatly R3000

Oh, a US dollar will cost you 6.68613 Rands. You're probably confusing AU Dollars

My bad,256 is sufficient for me currently, so I never took down the 512 price.

Dorris, did they mention why there hasn't been a press release about the new packages? It seems a bit strange that Sentech would introduce new product packages without some fanfare...

Anyhow given that modems appear to rock in @ R4000, it would seem that Sentech is probably trying to drive people into the 24 month option using inflated modem prices...since Woosh does indeed offer modems for less than half that price. Methinks I need to become friends with a New Zealander and get him to send me a modem [;)]

Those package prices ex. modem are really starting to look good...sub R600 for 128K is on the right track...

Now we just have to see what the partners bring out...

Woosh is apparently signing up customers at a seriously fast rate though...methinks Sentech needs to subsidise [:D] (if they aren't already)

Also Woosh is aggressively looking to become a telecoms voice player: http://www.nzherald.co.nz/storydisplay.cfm?storyID=3544436&thesection=business&thesubsection=telecommunications&thesecondsubsection=retail

Can Sentech do this here legally and resource-wise?
