There will be a documentary featuring Sentech and Broadband Wireless on SABC 3 today 3rd December.
Time: 18h00
Programme: Business Focus

*cringe* I hope that goes a bit better than the usual all-round *cough* low-quality *cough* reporting etc. regularly featured on SABC 3 (Special Assignment, anyone?).

Winston Smith was on Morning Live (SABC2) yesterday. He didn't mention anything that wasn't already on the website.

Wow. looked great. [8D]
Can't say they said anything new that wasn't already on the web-site but I guess its all for promotional purposes :)

Just watched the SABC thing. They didn't say anything we don't already know.

I was a bit dissapointed, the interviewer didn't ask Winston Smith, and some other lady from sentech, about stuff like ratio's, contracts, etc.

Dude, to 95% of the public, contention ratios mean SHEET and I doubt the interviewer even knows what a contention ratio is. Secondly, ProAsm told us its 35mbit:1000, so there you have it.
Thirdly, what else do you need to know about the contract? He mentioned that the modem price is built into the monthly fee which is why there is a contract. Im sure you can work everything else out for yourself eh [B)]

I was impressed by the Sentech 'insert' :) They have put quite a bit of effort behind their wireless broadband.

It seems very promising [8D]

By Bye ADSL :-)

Bugger...

Will there be a repeat? Isnt there one tomorrow morning sometime i think?

Sorry what I meant was, they showed footage of some sort of exhibition together with interviews. I apologise if I lead you to believe Sentech had an advert.

Shame gunman, i foresee trouble in your future, you have no credit rating ;)

the more you borrow the "better" your credit rating gets and the more valueble a customer you become, lol.

re: your question, there's going to be a partner with different options, will have to wait and see at release time...

i was impressed with the sabc3 thing, they don't look like another megaflop rising.

The reduction of cost theoretically worked out in excel as follows
COST=Cost of Modem (4000)
PERIOD=Period of Contract (24)
INTEREST=Loan Interest Rate (ie approx 8%) – they must want interest on the money they used to buy the modems origionally.

In Excel
=PMT(INTEREST/PERIOD,PERIOD,COST)
=PMT(0.08/24,24,4000)
=-173.70 (Approx)

So the price “should” come down by 173.70.
This is just a mathematical possibility. Use your own values where you feel are appropriate.

Firstly, this has been said before...Sentech, at launch, will announce a partner who will be offering the modem for a once-off fee. Im not sure how you will pay the monthly fee for the internet subscription though.
Secondly, you need to realise that sentech havn't exactly dedicated every staff member to this project (as they're not sure how it's going to turn out) and thus are offering as many packages at the moment that they can cope with. They cant satisfy everybody's needs unfortunately! If it becomes a success of course, they will over time, increase their staff and offer more packages to suit more people's needs. Unfortunately you're probably part of a smaller percentage of people who'd rather pay for their modem initially than have a built-in-price, so they chose to offer the built-in-price offer first so more would be able to afford the luxury. I for one, after just spending R3000 on my ADSL modem, dont exactly feel like slapping down another R4000 on Sentech's modem.

Hehe, hear hear LoneGunman...

I was the same... ai... but that first house and that first car REALLY grinded my balls when I had to put down almost 30 grand deposit for JUST a 110k car. Eish, all because I didn't have a credit record.

But yea, I'd rather use my credit card (not in the red like you think!) than hard currency, as it opens my wallet up for a nice lil' mugging. If I lose my credit card to some scumbag, I have insurance on it that will cover me, but if I lose the cash... thats hard earned money I will NEVER get back. I have alot of spendable cash lying around, just like you, I just have the bond and car basically to pay off, because those are the only two things I couldn't afford without taking credit. I can't wait till I'm 25, insurance is killing me! :)

24 month contract, kewl, but I'd rather buy the modem upfront like the rest, but yea, if I have to, I have to... no two ways about it.

BTW, I can afford much more than a soapbox to get off of! hehehehahaha [:D]

You're paying the R4000 one way or another. If you sign-up for a 24-month contract, I doubt they'll let you out of it early without substantial penalties; since obviously they need you around for 24 months to make their money back on the modem.

I'm just saying for many, it may be easier to pay off the modem over time with the internet subscription.

Maybe Sentech can take the cr@ppy ADSL modems as a trade-in [:D]
