MyWireless Survey

In attempt to get some more "rational" data around the entire thing, I've created this survey: http://rodent.za.net/survey/index.php?sid=1&newtest=Y

<b>It is not LIVE, so don't bother taking it, the results won't be stored yet.</b>

I merely want a few of you to try it out, and give me some feedback. Specifically, bitch at me about spelling/grammar mistakes and please suggest some more questions in areas that you feel are lacking.

Also, please point out problems with the formats of the answers, etc... I'm not a professional surveyor. Perhaps someone here has some experience in the field and can help out.

Once we have the thing nicely sorted out, we can take some action and ask people to complete the survey, so we can present some real numbers. The questionaire engine can handle branching, and conditionals between questions, so if you answer "No" to some questions, a lot of questions will be skipped.

Therodent, did you leave out all the known good towers on purpose, tisk tisk.
Yeah, I know it probably was a honest mistake, tower 22, fourways doesn't appear on your list.

Well done, RoDent. Here are a few suggestions to consider.

1) "General Information: Which MyWireless package did you subscribe to?" - add the kilo Bytes per second in brackets next to the kbps speed [e.g. 128kbps (16kBytes per sec)].

1) "General Information: Which tower in Pretoria does your modem connect to?" - Keep the "Other" option, but always provide an "Unknown" option, rather than having the user type in "Unknown" into the "Other" option. What about also asking for which NodeB-Frequency they are connected to (with "Unknown" option)?

2) "Speed Perceptions and Tests: Have you had performance (speed) problems with MyWireless?" - I think this needs more than just "Yes" or "No". How about:-

- Generally get at or close to my package's rated speed.
- Generally get better than half my package's rated speed.
- Speed varies, sometimes good, sometimes poor.
- Rarely get better than 4kBytes per sec.
- Rarely get better then 2kBytes per sec.
- Don't know.
- Other (with textbox).

*) New page about "Connection reliability"

- Generally remain connected for more than 5 days at a time.
- Generally remain connected for more than 2 days at a time.
- Mostly modem dis-connects at least once per day.
- Mostly modem dis-connects after less than an hour.
- Manually disconnect overnight, or when not using the internet.
- Other (with textbox).

3) "Customer Service: Who, in your opinion has been of greatest use to users in resolving issues?" - Add "MyASDL forum" to list.

*) New page about options for Sentech to improve customer relations. Sentech should ...

- Have an official presence on the MyASDL forum to field questions and provide feedback about problems with the system.
- Establish a web page that gives up-to-date status information for each tower.
- Regularly send every user emails about problems and scheduled maintenance.
- Read and react to all email sent to [email protected].
- Other (with textbox).

I think the "speed problem" question is fine. Keep it simple. the rest of the survey gets the details...That question determines the core issue. People getting bad Speeds, Yes/No? nada more.

After trying to get Sentech to return calls and emails for the past few months I finally managed to track someone down on their cellphone who said that the tower at the Telkom exchange on the corner of William Nicol & Witkoppen (opposite Fourways Mall) was finally operational and had been so for 4 weeks. AFAIK it was supposed to replace the antenna at Fourways Golf Park. Does anyone have info on this?

ChrisW, I'm on it, tower 22 that is, I've had great experiences with this tower, its been live for a lot longer than 4 weeks.
But Beware, its missing the 1st sector, that would be the one covering N through SE, my guess is Sentech has that covered by the Golf Park.
Due to the missing sector,there is minimum coverage on the sandton side of witkoppen, it extends 300 metres past Monte Casino, anywhere after that, you'll need an antenna.

I'm not too sure about that, if that was the case, don't think they would have left it short 1 panel, there was talk of a lonehill tower earlier this year, that might have been the one planned to replace Golf Park, don't know what happened to it.
