Never ever ever travel over Easter...

My worst was 12 hours DBN to JHB.

Went away for easter weekend once before. Never again. Left Kruger in the morning and ended up stuck in the mud near Belfast. Got home close to midnight :(

Yeah, turns out they had graded the dirt roads (a detour from a traffic jam) the week before and it had been drizzling since. After sliding down a long twisty downhill there was no turning back. A farmer, his datsun and his huge wife were stuck at the bottom of this downhill too. Luckily he'd called his friend who was going to "vat 'n trekker" and come help us out (them, us, and another lot that had done the exact same thing).

For some odd reason, I just burst out laughing when I read that. :D

Horrific accident. Friend/highschool teacher who taught me, my bro, sister, wife and basically everyone in my hometown. was involved in that crash. He passed on, along with his wife and son. Leaving behind two daughters :(

Ha ha! That sucks. We went to the West Coast, took all the back roads and apart from a few kilos on the R304/N7 there was hardly any other cars on the road.

My SO and I (and our daughter) decided to drive to Durban on Thursday morning to spend the long weekend with mom and siblings in KwaMashu township. We love road trips because we get time to talk and connect. Awesome weekend!

But yesterday was something else, coming back from Durban. We left KwaMashu at 11:50 and arrived in centurion at 23:45! Traffic backlogs, especially approaching the Wilge plaza. A 5 hour trip turned into a looooooooooong nightmare!

Anyone who was also caught up in the madness?

IT has been this way ever since i can remember and i would never attempt that trip on that day especially at that time . :)

Condolences to everyone that lost their loved ones.

Ever since 12th December last year I will never travel with anyone driving other than myself or someone that I know doesn't take chances, especially if its holidays. Too many people are willing to put others lives in danger cause they are in a rush, 12 Injections, 6 stitches and R1600 later I realised this . In my opinion its just too dangerous on the roads during holidays, I'd rather take leave and go in the off season.

But as k@k as that day was, how many people can say they were in a car that rolled, airbags didnt go off and walked away with 3 cuts, 1 on 3 middle fingers of my right hand :D

You've got to leave early IMO, you can't leave at lunch time.
Nah, doesn't matter what time you leave. If there's an eff-up then there's an eff-up, it's luck of the draw whether you avoid it or not. Best is to leave a day or two after everyone else leaves, so I would actually have left tomorrow... :p

true but surely the chances of an accident increase when more cars are on the road?

Also, as you said, if there is an eff-up and you get delayed, you will still get home at 7/8pm. much better than Midnight if you ask me.
