Hi Everyone

I've read all the reviews, checked the specs etc but there's nothing like hearing from locals who actually have the phone's in question.

I'd like to get my wife's phone upgraded this weekend and
have narrowed it down to the N78 and 6210 Navi.

I have the 6110 and I've been very happy with it for more than a year.
the 6210 seems like a natural progression but then again i wont be the one using it.

What's important for her is camera, vids, comfort of keys etc for lots of texting

What i like most about the 6110 is the free, unlimited voice guide navigation whereas on other phones you have to pay for this service

Can someone comment on the 6210 / n78 in this regard ?
and give some other opinions :-)

Thanks !
:)

I have the 6210 navigator, for texting it's not too great cause the top three buttons are very close to the sliding top part, making them hard to reach. The sliding mechanism is already broken after it fell from my bed while it was open, now it is loose and rattles. Not saying the phone is made badly but it is not going to survive a drop if it's open.

The wireless lan on the N78 is a plus, the 6210 only has bluetooth but then with the the N78 you don't get hsdpa. If had to choose again it would still be the 6210 for me, it's a decent phone overall.

Isn't the "free" GPS subscription only for 6 months? What does this cost thereafter?

I've not actually used either the N78 or the 6210, but I am also in the process of trying to decide what to get, and went and had a look at them both yesterday afternoon at the local vodashop. I like the specs on the N78 (the whole feature pack 2 thing), but one look at the keys and I've dumped that idea. The 6210 seems pretty good. Why can't they just make them both with HSPDA and wifi though?

(A few years back I got excited cos my phone could do sms's, and now I'm bitching about high end data connections. That's life.)

A couple of years of that and you could have bought a Garmin... How long does Garmin give you updates for I wonder?

Yeah it's a pity about the R700 a year thing. Anyone know how much the garmin software is and if the voice navigation is free after the initial purchase? I think I will consider going that route (no pun intended) because it may work out cheaper in the long run, also garmin is better anyways.

Uh oh, damage control.
Both 6210-Nav and N78 have HSDPA, as well as FP2.
The differences are that N78 has more RAM for multitasking: Around 45mb on start up whilest 6210 has around 25mb. The N78 has the FM Transmitter, but the 6210 doesn't. 6210 has an accelerometer for auto screen rotation, built-in digital compass and louderspeakers. N78 has Wifi but 6210 doesnt.
It all realy depends where there you want a Multimedia convergance phone, or a phone thats a tool that can double up as a Navigation system. Both have GPS but the 6210 will obviously be a lot stronger at this since its a Navigator. Id say take the 6210 for your wife ,i saw one at the Virgin , Voda and Cell C stores at Canal Walk two days ago when i was in Cape Town. Must say the 6210 is a beauty up front and its buttons look a lot more text friendly than the N78's. Both have the same 3.2mp camera. Definetly get 6210.

Firstly the N78 could have hsdpa BUT only if you get the US version, I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure we get the European version here.
The N78 (N78-1) Euro version lacks US 3G, so be careful which you buy.

Secondly the 6210 does have a FM radio, I should know I have one. (Edit: I see you said transmitter, so you right about that one)

Thirdly both phones have the same amount of ram, 64mb.

Whew! Now that's damage control

Are you sure about the HSDPA and FP2? Nokia's website isn't clear on either - there is no "yes" under HSDPA on their site, but then there isn't a "no" either, and it just says S60 ver 3 under the 6210's operating system... Cos if you're right, I can live without the wifi to be able to actually type an sms or two.

I suppose it depends which version they get. I just did another search and found an N78 with 96 megs of ram, it's starting to get too confusing for me now. I give up.

Ok, I've been scouting and I'll throw my 2 cents in.

The 6210 has 120MB and the N78 has 96MB user memory, according to Nokia, but tsepz is right that the N78 has more free executable RAM. They both have FP2. And the FM transmitter tsepz mentioned is not the radio but a transmitter so that you can tune your car radio in to play songs from your phone on the car system.

Are you sure your not getting confused between the on board memory and the ram, if you look here you will that the 6210 has 64mb of ram, same as the N78 (according to the link I saw).

I was right about everything.
The N78 has an FM Transmitter and FM Radio, 6210 only has FM Radio.
Both have HSDPA AND FP2. The N78 in SA is the one with HSDPA.
The N78 has a 96MB RAM chip with around 45mb RAM available after boot up.
6210-Nav has a 64MB RAM chip sitting at around 25mb RAM at boot up.
I know all i said was right cause i was on NOKIA DEVICE Site and GSMArena while writting my post.

In the NOKIA Forum they made a mistake the SDRAM is 64mb NOT 120mb. Ive used a 6210-Nav and i can confirm this.
