N95 Firmware update - 20.0.015

Talking about N95 problems, I've started to have a few myself. Screen blanking out, or switching around & whatnot at the strangest times. Even switching to strange languages sometimes.

I thought a Firmware upgrade would sort me out, but it seems to have made it worse. With ver. 20.**** the screen is almost permanently off, or looks like it has a graphics driver problem, fading from VGA to EGA and then dying.

anyone else ever experienced anything similar? I wouldn't think its the update, it worked perfectly for a day afterwards, but when i charged and switched it on this morning - BSOD. as in black screen of death. phone is on and working, but no screen, or flashes of 16 colour mode screen.

I also have the update and have not encountered any problems however when I loaded one or two apps from the net I started having a few like you have I unloaded the apps and yeah it's working fine, One of the apps which I had problems with was "RotateMe' and 'Remote' I have since put the latest RotateMe Beta2 and it's working fine, U must check out for some of these apps because they are still in a beta version and your phone can crash!!!

Hey guys,

Not sure this is a firmware issue but I see dotVIBE mentioned a problem above which my N95 developed suddenly this morning.

Did the firmware upgrade to version 20 a few days ago. No problems. Loaded some new apps, new games. No problems. Then all of a sudden this morning while playing a game (MTV Crib game) the screen started "rolling" to the right, changing colour and going blank every now and again. At first I assumed it was the game so I exited it. Still problem persisted whenever I pressed the directional keys to scroll. I then thought rebooting my phone may help but when it retarted the phone it continued blanking out when I pressed the "arrow" keys.

I searched online and saw this same problem mentioned elsewhere but with no definitive solutions provided. Some said it may be the LCD (but it is not permanently blank), some said the ribbon connecting the LCD, some said moisture damage (not much chance as my phone has been treated like a princess!!), some even said firmware may cause it (but it was fine for a few days after....).

Anyway I eventually gave up trying to resolve it myself and took the phone to my SP in Westville. Awaiting feedback.....

If someone else has found a solution or had this problem let me know.

Strange. No problems here Yet! Still on V.15

We will wait and see!

Is there any way to upgrade the N95 firmware, from v. 12.x.xxx to the latest v. 20.0.015 without using Nokia Software Updater (NSU)?

PC Suite tellls me that v. 20.0.015 is now (finally - > 2 months after it was released overseas ...) available here in SA for MTN-source phones, but each time I use NSU, with phone connected, and after full backup, etc., the 113Mb file starts downloading, but soon crashes.

Is there a link available hwere I can download the new firmware without using NSU to manage the download? And then just run it from my laptop to update the phone via USB cable?

If I have to use NSU, then I guess I will be forever on the old v. 12.x.xxx phone firmware, as many attempts to update hasn't worked.
