Hi

I "used" to be able to quickly find this feature, but lately it either seems disabled or I'm just being stupid.

When plotting a course to someplace on Nokia maps, it used to automatically show my progress in realtime.... passing streets, etc.

Now, however, it simply doesnt happen. I have to press the UP/DOWN buttons, but then it skips major steps and I lose my bearings (doh)

So.... how do I enable it again, or what GPS software does this (or better) ?

Thx

Depending on your firmware, I think this was disabled from firmware v12 and up.

I am also all ears for a better GPS software alternative - (while the Nokia stuff is cool, it is just a tad expensive - especially seeing the newer nokia phones now come out with the navigaton option already freely enabled).

i'm very sure it was disabled from v20+, as I immediately updated my firmware to v12 (my current f/w) when I got the phone.... and it worked afterwards.

just recently (last 2-3 months) i realized it's not auto updating.

C'mon Tomtom, I am waiting for support for internal GPS...

btw i read some reports, and most peeps prefer Garmin XT to Tomtom 6, it is overseas though and not here.

Yeah, so I am repeatedly told. It is just that Garmin has been in the country for yonks whereas its only in the last 6 months or so that Tomtom have been here. Tomtom is huge in Europe. I prefer Tomtom, although adding an external GPS to an E90/N95 to get it to work just doesen't crack it. There is also Route 66 V8 just out, looks good but I havent got it running with local maps (yet).

I have route 66, it is ok but not that cool, very confusing at times. I think i still have version 7 though!

ok i also got nokia maps v2.... but it keeps zooming out right into space when i try to zoom out.
zooming in is nice and smooth, but zooming out doesnt stop :(
is there a fix for this?

lol, nah. zooms IN smooth enough.... tap the zoom OUT button, and it goes right into orbit :(

since i installed garmin and Nokia Maps v2 :(

garmin... *sigh*

map quality is not on par with nokiamaps, and for some reason i cant click LEFT. which is quite a bummer, lol.

went back to nokiamaps, and now it zooms into orbit everytime i click zoomout :(

ps: apparently v1.2 of Nokia maps has tracking disabled. how do i downgrade to v1.0 or v1.1.... please :(

pps: found old v1.1 version @ http://fpa.smart2go.com/free_downloads/NOKIA_Maps_1_1_S60_update.SIS
loaded fine to phone's memory, and it shows v1.1 inside Nokia Maps.... will test tracking in a bit.

Let me guess, you have an N82, right?

It is a bug with Garmin Mobile XT and the N82, it makes the # key "stick" and this is why you get this behaviour.

There is a fix for it, you'll find it quite easy if you do a search.

N95.

but anyways... v1.1 also has the tracking feature disable, and apparently the only way to get v1.0 back, is a deep-reset :(

formatted my N95 the other day... the default ROM only has a BETA of nokia maps on it. so, when you update it, it updates to the locked v1.03, with tracking disabled. ffs.

so yeah, what other GPS auto-tracking packages are there?
NOT interested in Garmin;
I know of route66;
I know of Tomtom;
any more?
