N95 Thread

So yesterday i had to meet someone, had no idea where it was(only a street name and that they were at a engen garage), thought it would be a good test for the GPS :).

Firstly no matter how hard i searched for the street name on the map search function i couldnt find it!. I had to manually scroll through the map looking for it(i knew more or less the area). after finding it i looked for petrol stations on the map...it actually tells you it's a Engen/Shell petrol station that was a nice surprise! so i set that position as a landmark and proceeded to Plan a route from where i was.

Then pops up the Itinery which looks good and shows me written directions so i try and get it to navigate for me....
unless i dont know how to use the device or i was mistaken...i couldnt get what i wanted. if i say navigate it asks if i want to buy voice navigation if i dont buy voice navigation it just cancels! i though it would guild me without voice then?
What i could do was "Start Tracking" which shows my GPS position, shows the route broken down into waypoints which i can scroll through but it does not follow my position through the waypoints??

At the end it all worked out but that included me planning the route again then selecting Start tracking and driving while working with my phone to go through the waypoints, very dangerous

can anyone else please confirm/deny the map searching function?

*edit: the route calculated was definetly the fastest and best route, but voice navigation is really a must if you going to use the GPS for this purpose!

I used it the day before to find my way from PTA central to menlyn, ... i had to first get a GPS lock and when it finally did lock i chose the "start tracking" option, but yes without voice guided nav its not entirely reliable to rely on the "tracking" option ... last minute turn lefts and rights ...

No the guided Nav you have to pay ... think its unfair since the device aint cheap and it should have been included as a no extra cost feature ... sure someone will hack it or 3rd party apps will come up

The map searching function has worked for me thus far

Used the nav system that came with my car and that works like a charm ...

Whoever has gotten the Map search function to work please post an address for me to use, i just cant get this right!

N95 Firmware Upgrade

New Nokia 95 Software update

Hi TonyA

Please share the where/how with us as my PC Suite (v6.83.14.1) takes me to the europe phone update site ( http://europe.nokia.com/softwareupdate ), which does not have the N95 in the list of phones.... :(

And Nokia @ Vodaworld are still opening their new shop, so no support there. Their counter in the passage there directed me to a Nokia lady in Metro Home World. She nearly went ga-ga when she saw the phone, and obviously hadn't had any hands-on experience with an N95 yet, as she started asking questions as if I am the consultant and she the customer ....

Yeah, the long and short of it all: Nokia SA does not have the latest firmware

So please help with a web link

looks like it still aint available for South Africa ... Europe only for now :( ...

Apparently the update improves camera quality, more responsive phone .. GPS is apparently also improved ...

I've read the whole thread.
Have downloaded and installed the updater software.
Backed up everything on the phone
Ran NSU, with the following result

[drumroll]

Nokia N95 (RM-159)
Firmware version
Current: 10.0.018

No software updates available for your phone

did you select another phone from the list eg n80 or somethin similar? after downloading the file, it says you have a n95 and then it downloads the latest fw for the n95
