That phone is awsome, any news on the release date?

I might get lynched for this but I have a few complaints about this phone;

It's supposed to be the flagship Nokia phone, like the n95 was 2 - 3 years ago, so why have some of the great innovations of that phone not been incorporated into this one?

My n95 is really a convergence device for me, I use almost every multimedia feature on the phone and due to that fact, the dedicated music keys, gallery key and key layout for the n-gage app are second to none.

So how come the n97 doest have dedicated hardware music keys? I hate having to unlock my phone, look at th screen, find the right icon and press it to play or forward etc, with my n95, i do that with the phone in my pocket or my lap, without even looking at it!!

What about the n-gage app? how will they layout the gaming keys? on the keyboard? Ok, that might work, but I remain doubtful. And I dont think touchscreen gaming will replace a hardware set of keys any time soon, I've played tons of iphone games, theyre lots of fun for a little bit, but they get tired very quickly.

Just some of my concerns with the new direction Nokia seem to be heading with this new generation of N-series phones..

i reckon most of those functions will be run off the qwerty keyboard and it will unlock when you slide it open...

i suppose any new phone will take some getting used to..

i think what you looking for is the n86: find some info on it here: http://www.gsmarena.com/nokia_mwc_09-review-318.php

the only thing i dont like about it is the 2.6inch screen which is smaller than n95/n96 at 2.84inches..

I agree with you, most new phones take getting used to, but the concept of dedicated keys that you dont need to look at is something that I feel, once introduced, should stay that way, kinda like the copy/paste button, remapping those functions to keyboard keys is not, in my opinion, an acceptable compromise.

I've read about the n86, looks good, but it's probably going to be overpriced due to the fancy new camera/lens system.

I'm still very happy with my n95 and I dont really need to change it, but i have an upgrade due in november and i'm migrating to a higher package then so I've just been trying to get an idea of what I might go for then, of course, there's always room for some new unannounced device that might be even more spectacular, but, I tend to buy a phone that's priced at what it's worth and not overpriced because it's some new fancy tech, so, the new stuff thats out now should fall within my price range by then.

These small gripes aside though, I think the n97 looks like a real winner, I hope they make sure it has a good battery, and a decently lit screen.

dont bet on it.. we live in south africa remember? land of the (nothings) free, and rip off your consumers. you know.. the people who put bread and butter on your table? or in this case, the people who put millions into your bank accounts..

my contract is up for renewal in June, is there any way MTN will allow me to wait till a better phone is released later in the year? eg Sony Ericsson Idou. btw anyone no when this phones gonna be released?
