Naas still uses a few American pronunciations. So how long did he actually spend in the US in the 80's? Was it enough to cause his slight US accent to remain with him for 20 odd years? Is this a 'natural' Afrikaans/American  accent or is it put on?

I've also found a lot of people pick up the accent very easily. If you say a couple of words with an american accent you see it's a very lazy/easy way of saying things. I guess that's why it sticks with people.

What amazes me is a lot of Saffers who spend time outside SA come back with some or other accent but overseas people who spend a lot of time here never pick up the South African accent??!!Just a thought

He played for the Dallas Cowboys in the NFL. He only went on as a kicker.

Is english his first language? Accents in other languages mean zilch. You haven't got much control how the words are pronounced :D that's why is so easy to pickup if someone is talking in a learned language (even if he is speaking it better then you do). I had a look at this issue years ago, when I learned english (my fourth european language). I like how the South Africans talk. They pronounce the 'r' so funny :D

so true I picked up a semi Swedish accent while playing online games, never got back to the old Afrikaans one :D.... I think we unlearn it because we know we pronounce the words wrongly..
