Name change for Mango flight booked through SAA?

Anyone have any experience with this?

SAA does not allow name changes - you have to cancel and rebook.
Mango does allow name changes.

Called SAA - they put me hold while they called Mango - couldn't get through so they gave me the Mango booking reference (different from the SAA booking reference).

Called Mango - they said they can't open the booking and referred me back to SAA.

There is an extra "r" in the middle of the passenger's surname.

Don't know what to do now. I did the booking, but I'm not the passenger

Bit the bullet and rebooked directly with Mango. Correct name, same flights.

Called SAA to cancel original - they need the rebooked flight to attach to the cancelation request - gave them the Mango reference - they can't pick it up because SAA issue a different reference.

On their system they check Mango flights with the SAA reference and eTicket number.

Told him to go to the Mango site and use the Mango reference and DOB.

They can't even get to the Mango website, they don't have individual emails - sent the Mango booking confirmation to [email protected].

SAA is in trouble because of BS like this - archaic system that does not even intergrate with their subsidiary, nor does their website offer all the options for changes that Mango or other airlines offer.

Everything gets sent to the bloated call centre when their system needs to be updated.

Wonder if I'll even see that refund - somebody kill me now.
