I will be driving to Namibia soon and I want to get a sim card with some data on.

I preferably want to do this before I leave and just switch on the phone when I get there.

I assume MTC has the best coverage (even though I assume it will be limited to nonexistent in some places). Is this correct?

How do I go about this? Other suggestions?

Check out Airalo, heard some good things about them

Thanks. I will look into it. I reached out t MTC on their whatsapp line and got the following responses:

Good day, you are chatting with <removed>.
Kindly note that we do not offer e-sim services within Namibia, you will need to get a sim card. We have an MTC mobile store at the airport so you can purchase one as soon as you arrive.
and
you can only purchase one in Namibia, you can enquire at the borderpost as some of them usually have simcards available

which provider are you with now ?
Vodacom lets you buy international roaming for R99 per GB https://www.vodacom.co.za/vodacom/shopping/v/data-travel-bundles

Airalo uses Telecom Namibia and their coverage is not as good as MTC. You'll also need to register your SIM card as they've started something similar to RICA
