NAS DRIVES - Small business

Hi,

I need advice on a NAS drive for a small company. There would be a maximum of 5 users and the NAS drive would be the universal storage area for the users. I require raid and a password protected setup for accessing data on the NAS drive. A usable space of 1-2tb would be fine.

Any suggestions on a basic setup with a budget of R3000 without HDD.

Get an Intel Atom motherboard (intergrated CPU), some ram, install something like Freenas, or if you know linux, install something like Ubuntu, with Samba, etc... If you in PTA, I can help you with the setup. Mobo, chassis, and PSU should set you back no more than R1500.

You need the "My Book World Edition II''.

I bought one for our company and it worked a treat. Extremely easy to configure and use & works with Windows, Linux & MacOS.

Most places will sell the My Book, so shop around.
 
NAS set up

if you are in joburg pm me i can help you set up a Centos based NAS with samba,dhcp,dns and vpn
 
AC Ryan Media Player with Lan....Works well as a NAS. That or the Mede8r 500x with network option.
 
I would go the route of kwaggawerner, its cheaper and you are not tied down to a specific box brand and you can upgrade easier.
